The only issue i've seen is the Elitism in metal, getting disrespected because you like any genre other than metal or even certain kinds of metal. Luckily that usually goes away once people have grown up cause if your an adult and still call people posers you've seriously failed at life. For me metal has always been the scene that collects up all the folks that don't fit in any other place. I love it that we now have cool metal bands popping up from Africa, Asian countries and everywhere else! You can go to a Nile gig in Indonesia, how cool is that? I have a shelf of CD's back here where Emperor sits next to Enya, different music for different situations. When I was 20 I'd give a shit.... I'm 43 now..... and I don't! :)

I remember seeing Cannibal Corpse at the Gathering of the Juggalos. The Juggalos loved it. The band looked apprehensive when they came out, but that changed when they saw how we lost our goddamn minds and wanted them to keep playing. The metal community at large was a different story all together. They had a fit like some petulant children. I've been to plenty of metal shows sportin my hatchet man necklace and get a lot of pouty frowns, but no one says shit. Fuck you if don't like it big baby. You'd be surprised how many cats like ICP and love death metal, but folks still throw a fit.

The metal is not racist, I'm from Bolivia and apart from listening to heavy metal I listen to the native indigenous music of Bolivia ... and there are also Native American people and native Bolivian people who have metal bands, also in Bolivia indigenous music is fused with heavy metal and nobody discriminates against others, for being white, native Indian or black, I also know Brazilian heavy metal bands that have black people as members and nobody discriminates against them for listening to metal or belonging to heavy metal bands and being Indian or black ... but if there is a rejection to rap ... and in my personal way of understanding, rap is not rejected because it has black people, rap is rejected for what it represents ... I don't agree with this at all. At least in Canada people are very accepting and they don't care what you wear to shows. In fact I purposefully wear non metal shirts at shows to be more of an individual and not follow what everyone else is doing. It's a tribal kind of community because it's a passionate style of music that requires genuine authenticity. People mistake it for elitism when it's just more of a strong preference of lifestyle and music choice. Competitive bowlers stick in their click and try to push out the less serious/passionate people...that's just human nature. There's Metal in every part of the world, so to say there's racism in metal it too specific to a genre of music--just more broadly state that there's elitism and racism in the world, metal is just a form of music, and there's nothing really all that specific that points to it being racist in the lyrics. Suffocation was formed by a few black dudes and they are some of the pioneers of death metal, so I don't buy it!

I used to listen to rap back in the 80s to early 90s at a young age. Then I heard Eddie Van Halen and was floored and never turned back. Went from Van Halen to Metallica, Pantera, and so on. To me, rappers aren't musicians. They're just glorified lyricist. People like hip hop and that's cool but it's not musicianship to me and that's why I couldn't care less about that genre anymore.
