i lost mine somewhere along the way, but I got it in 1991 for AP Calculus and used it to get a BS Engineering. best feature: a 3x5 index card fit perfectly inside the cover.

Would love an in-depth look at the TI-85. I read that it was more powerful and designed for engineers, but never what exactly is different.

Yeah, the TI-85/86 is on my list.

Hardware wise it is actually pretty similar to the 81 with some key advancements, such as more memory, a larger LCD and particularly link capability.

Good video, thanks. TI graphing calculator tech seems to be stuck in the TI-81 roots. I like the TI-89 Titanium, it is a capable CAS calculator. The new Nspire seems to be an overkill and tries too hard to be like a computer

In all TI calculators until the motorola CPU, the TI Basic is lacking the SUB routines and the DF FN (user defined functions)...

Can ASM programming still be done on TI calculators? Can I also program in C/C++? If so, which calculator would you recommend? I have a TI-89 Titanium, but I'm also looking into buying an old school TI calculator, like the 81, 82, 85, 86, etc. Which among those would you recommend? Thanks!

ASM isn't officially support on modern TI calculators, since Texas Instruments are worried about exam cheats. You can write ASM and C/C++ programs for TI-Nspire calculators using Ndless. As for ASM on old school TI calculators, I'd recommend getting a TI-86. There are some great resources on Z80 asm programming and game development on jgmalcolm.com/z80/, and www.ticalc.org/programming/columns/86-asm/el-helw/lesson1.html. You'll also need a link cable - see www.ticalc.org/hardware/cables/.

this was the calculator that replaced my casio fx7000g because i wanted more memory :) though i'm surprised you say that it only has 2k. maybe there were variants for different markets? unfortunately when i went to university the calculator didn't come with me :(

Parametric and functional isn’t the same thing. Functional is y(x) and parametric is x(t) and y(t).....

3 years later than 1985 would be 1988, earlier would be 1982. And 1985 is 6 years before 1991 not 5.....
