Thanks for making this video. I’ve been struggling with this conversion problem for hours but I’ve learned from this video how to work my way through.

Does anyone know how I can put a fraction into this ti89 without all of the parentheses? like in the ti84 you can hit alpha y= and it gives you separate places to put the numerator and denominator without the parentheses

got a question for you. on my 84 titanium, i could use the aplha F1 keys to get the general format for fractions, with 2 boxes stacked on top of each other, ready for me to move my cursor into and type. is there anything similar on ti 89 titanium? I was trying to calculate (360*10.2)/(24*60*60), but i don't want to use the parantheses.

No, the TI - 89 only has one line on the input section, so parenthesis are needed. After you press enter on the TI - 89, it will display the fraction with the bars, not parenthesis. The TI - 84 can show you the fraction beforehand, but the visual display of the equation after you enter it, normally is harder to read than the result on the TI - 89.

why wouldn't you just leave the calculator in Exact mode? and use the squiggly equals sign to switch to decimals if need be?
@inx18195 жыл бұрын
i know this is old but sometimes you want to know the fraction result especially if it's with square roots etc for example the result of a hard solve

I am trying to add 1.20+10% on my ti-89. It keeps giving me 1.3 instead of 1.32. I've tried everything and it just doesn't give me the exact 1.32. I tried the Float 6 changed it to Fix 6, tried the Auto, Approximate and Exact settings you name it and it keeps on giving me 1.3. It's like the calculator is ignoring the 0 in the 1.20 how could i fix this?

it is because when you say 10% it assumes that from 1

You don’t need to change Mode. Just do 4/5.0 🤷🏻♂️

Check the mode setting for "EXPONENTIAL FORMAT", The setting you have is probably "SCIENTIFIC", meaning it will express all the numbers in scientific notation. Changing the setting back to "STANDARD" will get you back to the comfort of traditional decimals.
