I use racing line as a rough estimate of braking zones, anti lock brakes, medium TC, and auto gears. Mostly because I'm on controller and don't actually want to learn every corner of every track. I never follow the racing line exactly, but it's more of a guide for me. Also I continue to use controller because I play on Xbox, and I'm too broke to set up a sim rig, even for my xbox

The only assist I have real issue dropping is racing line. Learning and getting breaking points and apex speeds right seems like an insurmountable job for me. In league racing, and when I don't feel like sweating too much, I also use medium TC and sometimes ABS (I didn't in the last league I ran in though), as I'm not consistent enough without them. It's fine for singleplayer where I can flashback, and I can complete at least one decent lap with them off, so the potential is there, I can technical drive without them :P I dropped autogears a long time ago, and it was easier to adapt than I thought it would be.

Another major factor I found which limited my pace initially was having a bad setup. If you can fine tune your setup to suit your driving style, you can take up to a second off each lap. It’s so important to have the right setup in place, especially if you’re looking to get faster.

Thank you for the tips. What I struggle the most in is driving in wet conditions. Would really like a video on that. When I normally can compete with the AI at 80-90, I will be seconds of as soon as it's wet conditions. Also a video on how to create a setup that fits your own driving style would be great. Questions like: What to change when you keep losing the car in fast corners; What changes can/should be made between dry/wet and quali / race setups. How do you judge, if you should just add more wing if you lack grip, or if you should change the suspension to get more traction in corners.

A video on setups would be awesome. My intuition sucks when it comes to how I set up the car and hearing what actual in game effects happen due to stiff suspension or soft roll bars would help so much
@rg7535
@rg7535 2 жыл бұрын
This will be very basic because I don't want to write a bible, but it should help until you find something more comprehensive. Use softer suspension in tracks where the best racing line involves hitting a lot of kerbs, like Monaco. Stiffer suspensions will make the car a bit more responsive, which can help when you don't need to lean on kerbs a lot, like in Sochi. Softer anti-roll will help in tracks where there are long corners, such as Paul Ricard. Stiffer anti-roll bars will be better in tracks like Melbourne, for instance. I tend to go softer on the front and stiffer on the rear, unless it's a circuit like Paul Ricard or Silverstone, where you have too many long, high speed corners, in which case it's better to just go soft all around. Lock-on differential is good for responsiveness, but terrible for actually turning the car. It's a good rule of thumb to go almost all free off the throttle and heavily locked on the throttle, unless it's a track like Monaco, where you need free wheels to make the hairpin without pretty much stopping the car. Higher tyre pressure will make the car faster, but you will lose traction, so great for, say, Monza, and terrible for, say, Monaco or Singapore, although you can always go higher on the front and lower on the rear for traction. Your weight balance is there just to balance the car. So if you're getting too much understeer, set your balance towards the rear, and if you're getting too much oversteer, set the balance towards the front. As for toe in and toe out, you want toe in where there are a lot of fast corners, or you will lose too much traction over time. Toe out will make the car a bit more responsive where you don't need toe in. Lastly, you can always increase downforce to mitigate oversteer and understeer, and play around with the suspension as well. Try to play around with these set ups like this and you will soon understand how they work. I would explain the reasoning behind them all, but this got way too long as it is. Hope it helps.

The one single thing that has helped me most in F1 2021 is changing the camera settings. Everyone has different preferences, but I use TV Pod with a wide FOV, positioned up quite high, and angled downwards. That’s what gives me the best sense of where the car is on track, but just experiment and see what works for you. Other than that, practice following AI cars and gradually increase the difficulty, that’s the best way I’ve found to learn new circuits. Finally, it’s actually not as hard as it seems to turn off the driving assists and still drive well. Once upon a time I thought I would never drive without traction control, but now that I’m used to it, it’s honestly pretty easy. ABS has a much steeper learning curve, so I’ll admit I still use that one.

I love how I've been playing F1 games since Micropose GP 1, and there's still much to learn. I used to think I was half decent until I started watching your channel. On average I'm about 3 seconds off on every track / lap, but watching you has made me force myself to get better. I used to use ABS and TC up until a couple of years ago, and after only about a week of doing time trial laps to get used to it, I was was smashing my old times. I learn so much from watching your channel, TRL, and Aa- ...(flashback)...I learn so much from watching your channel and TRL Limitless. 😂 Now, after every career mode season, I can keep upping the AI, because I'm progressively getting better. I've also found that turning off flashbacks, which forces you to either restart an entire race or just deal with the situation improves your race craft immensely. Keep up the great content. There's a reason why you're my most watched KZbinr. 😎

That part of the video is misleading. Equipment will only gain you like hundredths or thousandths of a second and help you save the car a bit faster when you make a mistake but it won't prevent you from making the mistakes in the first place. And if you are going to upgrade your gear, getting a load cell brake kit would do you much, much better than a wheel/wheelbase with better FFB. Braking is where most people lose time, and it leads to better handling through the corners. A wheel does you no good if you still brake like crap in braking zones.

I've actually been playing a lot of GT Sport on the pad. I leave the settings on the cars. But I'm doing all the braking and shifting. I've noticed once you put in the time to go over the tracks, and you consistently go over sections of track you learn a lot of what Ben is saying. One of the things I've found is that in GT Sport you basically have to abuse track limits and drive some of the cars in a non intuitive fashion thrashing them about to get some of the lap/campaign times. I've just started noticing this about the F1 games as well. Although the F1 cars do everything better. And once you get used to no TC or ABS it's actually more enjoyable. Much faster. Even though I'm still a noob who sucks. Lol.

With the gears, it seems overwhelming at first, since it requires some multitasking. But once you get the hang of it it will be 2nd nature. You won't even have to think about it. I would recommend for you to be confident in your driving with automatic gears first. Once that becomes easy, you cab start multitasking by adding the manual gears challenge. Manual gears should also help with turning off TC. I would recommend to learn manual gears before turning off TC. What helped me as well with manual gears is just driving around a track with long straights and some hard braking zones, like Austria and just go slow and make sure you hit your gear changes. As you start to get used to it, you slowly increase your driving speed. It will be really tough at first (couple of hours), but you gotta try and hang in there. Are you on a controller or wheel?

This is an important video. There are a few areas I need to work on. Still getting used to the new wheel. I got a Fanatec gt dd pro and a trak racer tr-80 mk5. Loving it so far just need to upgrade my pedals to the V3 ones. the csl loadcell brake is ok but the polymers that come with it are terrible. Makes it hard to modulate. Should have gotten the V3 prdals to begin with but I didnt want to part with that much money at once.

a very helpful video for me as i just basically started to play the game, however getting used to no TC is too hard for me, cuz i dont really know how to control the throttle and the brakes to not spin (and yes i spin into basically every corner), so currently im just using the medium traction to try and control it and its pretty nice, however i tried to use no TC a lot of times and i just cant drive with it, i use like 10 flashbacks into 1 single corner to get it right, so.. yea lmao but looking forward for the next videos, cuz i feel like they will help me a lot to get better at the game and will help me beat the 110 AI one day thank you, Ben

Awesome video; Thanks for all the tips I’m at controller user and I’ve never been into gaming enough to get wheels and pedals etc so I do have some of the issues you spoke about. I turned TC off last year and it’s helped massively, Spun loads at first but you do get used to it and how to manage the throttle especially through long corners Also trail braking, I started just after I turned off TC and I can admit that it does help massively to really find the right braking points and the right exit lines etc One question not related to F1 games; Where did you get those mini helmets on your desk from?

Tip number one really makes sense. A lot of your corner isn't done by steering at all, in fact, a racing driver's job is to steer as little as possible because steering is slower. On entry, car placement and angle of approach accomplishes more than steering, if you watch the pros. I'm a bit reluctant to give my opinion on throttle control on corner exit (it's everything) because i'm still in the "must improve" category myself. So far (up to 4) these are good tips for all racing games not just F1. I would like to weigh in on the manual gears point. For many years i was an automatic user, then was forced to go to manual with clutch for one game in particular that accentuates the advantage. 2 months later i couldn't stand to drive auto in any game anymore. It's probably the single biggest change any of us can make.

I just bought a wheel, the first thing I did was turn off all the assists. Guess that was the right thing to do :) Makes learning harder initially, but now I find I focus more on where I am on the track, rather than just blindly following a set path.

the TCS/ABS rule mainly only applies to F1 racing btw. There's a lot of debate, but *factory* TCS/ABS is ideal if you're using other track cars. However, I still encourage 0 assists entirely though, because it will give you a better feel of your cars/wheel and the knowledge you need to master circuits. Makes games like dirt rally fun too

Currently doing absolutely no assists, monaco in wet is just despair.. I don't know all the tracks braking points yet, and its probably a while until I do, but I've gotten to the point I can drive a completely new track without spinning and within 10 secs of race pace. Love getting T-boned by safety rating B's with full assists while I'm a safety rating S and try to race as clean as possible. Great game!

I started driving manual on sticks and got to a point where I would spend an hour reconfiguring a controller for manual if the game didn’t just have a layout for it (midnight club 3 and others) went to GT and had auto on but realized immediately that I’m too used to manual and auto feels weird. I need to be doing more at once for the challenge. Still had assists on though and could still physically feel being held back from how I wanted to drive in some corners and situations until I turned them just all off cold turkey and felt the release of restrictions on me and just been gradually getting better at controlling different cars. Just got a T300 GT edition and aside from learning to get used to the physicality of it, I’ve basically immediately improved on lap times. You learn more to drive a bit safer too because of the way force feedback makes you feel it when you’re crashing lol force feedback also helps you take bigger risks as you can FEEL more information and correct and fix yourself better from one moment to the next

with assists, i just use the minimal amount of assists i can use, and i feel like im pretty fast with them, but if i need to cut down on them, it'll help to just ease into reducing the amount i use
