Wish they made this ride about the movie like many other rides are. They could've done so much with Dr. Facilier and the drop with the "Are you Ready?!?" song.

Maybe if enough people complain about Dr. Facilier not being in the ride Disney will add him in. Like Journey into Your Imagination in 2000.

This is the reason Splash should not have gone away. No one was upset about Splash until you were told to be upset and you don't even know what you're upset about. Politically correct? Then why aren't we upset about Peter Pan or Dumbo?

They wanted to have no VooDoo in the ride at all, which is dumb. They changed Mama Odie from being the "Queen of Voodoo" and now want to call her a "Bayou Fairy Godmother" 🤦♂
@bewarebewear15077 ай бұрын
The reason sadly was because of the involvment of voodoo is why Facilier wasnt in the ride. Disney wanted I guess to future proof the ride by removing any possible controversies that could arise later on and just excluded him entirely, and the reason why Mama Odie was added in was because they renamed her title officially from a voodoo queen to a bayou fairy god mother.

Storyline wise: Facilier is dragged into the underworld at the end of the movie, and this ride takes place after the events of the movie. Not that timelines have stopped Disney from forcing characters into rides before, but that's the rationale

Splash Mountain never carried over any of the so-called “problematic” elements from South of the South. It’s literally just about Brer Rabbit outwitting Brer Fox. I went my whole childhood never knowing what Song of the South even was until I reached adulthood. I guarantee you no little kid ever correlated a ride about Brer Rabbit with some obscure, defunct film that Disney has done their best to erase from existence.

@listerheb6 ай бұрын
The ride takes place after the move Dr. Facilier is dead. How you supposed to bring him back just so you can drop to it. Tiana is walking around in Disneyland and has her restaurant open now the land would be all wonky. I get it but for real most people on SM did not know what the story was they were following they were just waiting for the drops. I've been so many times and never even thought of the story on it until people whined about it being removed. Looks really cool now compared to before, but I guess a ride is really the only way to know.
@jtmann20026 ай бұрын
Oh you can easily bring him back. Are you really telling me they could have easily brought him back for the dead for one ride?? Instead, it makes more sense to have a super lame storyline with terrible music???
@listerheb6 ай бұрын
@@jtmann2002 The story line is on par with how lame or awesome it already was and the music is a bop, the mood is great and since 80% of the park guests didn't understand the story in the first place or care about it I'd say we're fine. Although I'll concede Florida has a lot more of the oldies. Also you can't bring him back without telling everyone how that happened, at least in California where it's themed more and connected with the whole land. If you don't like the story or the music that's you, and lots of other people too, but the ride looks better, sounds better and is still the same track so I think they'll survive it.

splash mountain never made reference to slavery which is the big reason "song of the south" gets so much hate. the ride was based on the animated uncle remus stories within the live action part of the movie with brer fox and bear chasing brer rabbit. they even changed the part where brer rabbit got stuck in tar to him getting stuck in honey,taking away the "tar baby" reference. anyone with no knowledge of "song of the south" would never make the connection to slave days. this new ride has little story,no moral, no lesson to be learned. it's all fluff and pandering to the p.c. world we live in. i'm offended that there's only one white person in the ride. surely there's more white people in the bayou than the one woman represented. see? it works both ways.
@steve-oh43427 ай бұрын
The film Song of the South is not about slavery, nor does it make any reference to it within the film. The time period of the film takes place during the reconstruction period of the deep south after the civil war in the US. The stories that the animated characters are based on are old folk tales from various regions in Africa that were passed down to generations of slaves who's families came from Africa, they were related through oral tradition for hundreds of years and in the late 1800's were committed to paper when a writer collected them all into a series of books. The writer was Joel Chandler Harris. He invented the character of Uncle Remus to narrate the br'er rabbit stories. They were published from 1881-1948. The character of uncle Remus was an ex-slave who told the stories to children to teach them important life lessons and how to deal with difficulties and struggles that we all encounter growing up. It is ashame that a timeless, genuine black cultural and historical heritage is so misunderstood and and is now erased from current modern day culture because of fake virtue signaling over possible racism or some supposed insensitive stereotypical portrayal of black people from within a certain time period in history. This redo of this ride is a disgrace and disservice to actual black history and culture in the US. How Disney handled this and what they did and are continuing to do by trying to erase these African folk tales is what is truly offensive.
