00:00:00 Next, we sing a piece called 'Masterpiece' by the english composer Paul Drayton. As the title suggests, 'Masterpiece' is a modest title for a piece with modest pretensions. It aims to illustrate the entire history of the last four hundred years of western classical music in about nine minutes. Many and varied are the composers mentioned, so if your favourite doesn't appear tough! 00:00:31 Johann Sebastian Bach 00:00:42 Moderato, vivace. But the song has also a meaning. It doesn't just list names of famous composers. And it is also an adoration towards J. S. Bach. Bach's music has influenced the whole of western music evolving thereafter. They are just countless of Rock/Pop Songs who use/d his ideas for example. The "Master piece" describes a circle, a circle of musical evolution. Always coming back to basics to create new ideas. And there still is plenty of stuff to do with music in the future.

Plenty of composers finished in different keys to the ones they started in, but that's not really what I meant. The thing I was impressed with is that they are singing a capella and manage not to drift off-key. When you're singing unaccompanied it's very difficult to hold absolute pitch
@aliceboss31347 жыл бұрын
Especially with the difficult chords they had 10-11 minutes in

Everyone here is misunderstanding what he means. He means that their pitch didn't drift at all, which is unfathomably difficult to do in a capella.

The cool thing about this song is that I have no idea who William Byrd is, and this just made me want to look up his music. Also, I just think this is one of the most talented things I’ve ever seen in my life.

Fantastic. The new lineup is very musically talented and technically brilliant, but these were showmen who know how to entertain on top of that. Sorely missed.

Agree, sorely missed. These were the Dream Team, imo.

I always think about what it must have been like to come into the age where you were finally able to dub this blissfulness to a record and listen to it at home, instead of paying top coin to enjoy it live~ we take so much for granted nowadays.☝☺

Practice, and also a little more practice
@LongLiveTrueFreedom10 жыл бұрын
TheSkipjack95 That's not all there is to it. To be a King's Singer you actually need to have an absolute pitch, they wouldn't recruit you just for being good and willing. These guys not only practice a lot, but are among the most talented and gifted singers in the world. There is not a single discordance, they don't need a starting note, they spontanously bump right into correct chords, that can't simply be trained, you actually have to be born with that.
@TheSkipjack9510 жыл бұрын
You know, it's not an innate gift. I actually study music myself, and ear training is a big part of the course
@aurellharmonics10 жыл бұрын
TheSkipjack95 I agree. I'm also studying music, and they teach you that stuff. Furthermore, it's actually much more useful as a choral singer to have absolutely rock solid relative pitch than it is to have absolute, or "perfect" pitch. Because A) Having perfect pitch does not guarantee that you sing in tune, B) It makes it much easier to transpose songs if that's what the group needs, and C) In the (hopefully rare) case that the group goes off pitch, you can follow them.
@LongLiveTrueFreedom10 жыл бұрын
TheSkipjack95 Of course, ear trainig is possible, but you can't reach the level of absolute pitch via training. You surely can come close to that but there is a natural limit to different kinds of hearing. Some people will never be able to repeat a basic melody or anything more complicated than a rhythm. Other will, and will do it better and more accurately through constant training. And some have absolute pitch, and can do almost anything with sounds with little to no training at all. Sad but true.
