I kinda get now why top students are worried about getting "bad grades" like a B. You seem genuine about it, you want to be great at it, you're doing your hardest to be good at it, and the B doesn't cut it. I can respect that.
@ipsharoy7398
@ipsharoy7398 4 жыл бұрын
Same. I am myself not an excellent student (I mostly get B and A, and sometimes A+) but I still understand. To make fun of a top student for getting B is often compared to a spoilt kid crying over a normal car for not getting a lambo, and it should not happen. They are trying to make it perfect, to get a good future, and we should understand them when they feel sad for getting a B

Also the grading is different than the US. So a B- (for example) in NZ is a D in the Us
@nonfique429
@nonfique429 4 жыл бұрын
@@theanimationlads7598 True, I haven't considered that. I went back and checked with our school's grading and anything above C- is fine by our grading, although you have to repeat classes between C+ and C- to increase your median if you get it below 2.0 (4.0 being A+, 0.0 being E). There are classes that I've failed, but they've let me take the next years classes because my median was high enough.

My 2nd semester was also the best, and it all went downhill from there. Second year first semester was my worst, got a C in one course because I was very stressed that semester. My first and only C, but also a bunch of B's, B+'s, and B-'s. My last few years weren't much better. I peaked in second semester of first year. Also as an Asian I haven't shared my grades with family after first year because of the B's and that one C, if they saw that C they'd be like 'we never want to C you ever again'

@felicityaeh
@felicityaeh 3 жыл бұрын
That means the standards for achievement of those marks is different. A 80% at different universities will not be equivalent, the standard of work needed will be different and so that's reflected in the grade boundaries.

@komlaagudze6374 3 жыл бұрын
You young students keep getting it wrong! In the US, 70% is a weak performance. That's like a bottom 10% or so. In the UK or UK patterned system, 70% at Oxford in the UK is a big achievement, but in America it's near the bottom. The problem with your school is GRADE INFLATION. Simple and straight - and this is the problem with almost ALL US universities

AFAIK, in Aus & NZ like in UK you'd need to have done 2 years of A level to even get into Uni. That's worth a good year off the start of a degree course. For instance, in A level Math you'd learn differential and integral calculus, linear algebra etc. In the English system you either leave at 16 after O level (called GCSE these days) or stay to 18 and do 3 or 4 subjects at A level.

Those are terrific grades, Toby - you have every right to be proud of your efforts! At 11:38 you talk about not going out, etc, while doing your undergraduate course. This was my experience, too, and sometimes I wanted to go out but there was work to be done. I beg to differ at 10:59 regarding no-one really being interested in grades at the end of one's degree - my first and second employer (within my first year after graduating at an engineer) were very interested in my grades. However; since then, no-one has been interested as it's the experience which counts more.

One thing that helped me a lot for motivation is to pay attention to people with good grades like Tibees, but also look at videos with people with lower grades who showed their current progress while moving up. To have some balance, and get a reminder that it’s a progress. I’ve hd good grades, but doing this helped me finally be in a place where I can apply to my dream education. Having teachers tell you that they see your potential, but you have to put in the hard work too really helped as well. I wish every student had just one eacher that believed in them because that helps so much those days the motivation is lower. I hope anyone who is watching this video will reach their goal, or that they will get closer to figure out their goal and set things in motion to that goal!💕

I got my first B in my college career this Summer. I was devasted because of it. I felt completely gutted. I was completely ready to give up after that because I felt that if I couldn't pass Calc 1 with an A, there's no way I can continue to go forward. I had taken 5 math classes before even starting Calc 1 because I was so behind in my mathematics. Now I'm in Calc 2, I have two more math classes after this before starting my upper division courses and all I can say is fuck grades. I was too fixated on whether I would get an A or a B that I would panick during exams. I have a long road ahead of me but as long as I get a C or higher and I learn the material, that's a victory for me.

From the point of view of someone who never got to finish high-school and was a C-F student, your comment is both astounding and confusing. I didn't quite because I got a bad grade, I quit because my health went downhill and the school system wasn't willing to help me continue an education.

We can all count our 'all-nighters'. Death by necessity. Why couldn't I have had students like you - not the results, but the attitude, curiosity and vulnerability? Keep those three treasures and you will never stop learning. PS - those are Rhodes Scholar grades. Ever thought about Oxford? PPS - Not a bad idea to think about a PG1 in something creative - but not to the extent it takes you off track. This also reveals another secret of successful university level study - its not how hard you study, but how you study.

Hi Tody, congrats on your grades. One question about all those Math and Physics classes you had per semester, did you take all those Physics classes and all those Math classes at the same time or were they taught in a sequence? For example, in your 2014 Bachelor of Science, I could not see myself doing Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Mathematics 2 all the same time. Just curious. Thanks.
