Traditional Tibetan Dance has its unique movements, dance steps and styles. These movements varies greatly from one region to another. Because Tibetan Traditional Dance is more of a community lead dancing rather than a staged dance, for many generations Tibetan Dance is passed down from One generation to the next. Unlike Tibetan sacred monastic dance which consist of symbolic gestures, movements and steps, Tibetan traditional dance is centered on the swiftness of foot work, rhythm and grace. The dancers pay much attention to the lyrics of the song rather than the dance itself. However there is certain subtle movements that are widely shared. Dances are performed in circles throughout Tibet and it could be more to do with the cold climate and the nature of dance being a community thing rather than a show. Elders lead the dances and youngsters follow. Each region of Tibet has its unique movements and not much of an influence of one form of dance has made to the other. Yet there is a shared rhythm, where the dance is set in two segments: a slow segment in the beginning building up to a faster segment at the end. Today many are growing up to know Tibetan dance as only seen on staged performances of Tibetan dance incorporated with Chinese acrobat dance. Traditional Tibetan Dance essence, grace and authenticity is disappearing. Bringing Traditional Tibetan dance movements, steps and styles back to the community.
