There is actually a cool explanation that might apply here. Many Tibetans and other populations who live at extreme elevation have a biological adaptation that differs from all other people who do not live in such places. You've probably heard the term "thin air" - that just means at high elevations, oxygen is not as prevalent in the air. The higher you go, the less oxygen there is. So throughout time, high elevation populations bodies evolved to have considerably larger rib cages and lungs than your average individual not living at such heights. This allows them to be able to take the bigger breaths they need in order to pull in more "thin" air to get enough oxygen. Could be a variety of contributing factors. But that could definitely be part of it.
