Thank you for posting this video. I have a similar problem and it encouraged me to find a surgeon. I had my surgery last week and so far I’m having no more patellar dislocations!

@@cherissevocage2928 Hope the surgery went well!! I'm almost 4months post op now :) still pain, and at times swelling, working with a physio to build strength but getting back into hiking taking it east though. Working back up to hopefully run again.

@@myjoystephanie heyy sorry to hear you're in pain still - I got a second lateral release with this surgery, 9 ish monts on still pain and knee cracks, surgeon thinks its the arthritis catching or something.. Its very sensitive still to touch... hoping to get the screws out after I hit the 1 year mark and see if it makes a difference.. Though outlook for my knees are pretty grim....

Hi Dr. Strickland. In general, are your patients able to return to full contact sports/running after tibial tubercle osteotomy? I've been recommended this procedure for both my knees and I'm concerned because the people I've spoken to who have had this procedure, they can't go running anymore because their knees become irritated.

I've just had this surgery. It's so painful, and i can't bend my knee as yet. But it's only a week post opp. Thank you for sharing this. Any tips on what to do in order to get where this dancer got to?

Every surgeon rehabs their osteotomies differently. I would use a lot of cold therapy and make sure to fully straighten your knee and bend to 90 when sitting. Also, quad sets help keep your quad from atrophying too much.

I had a tto as well after having pain and irritation for 4 years and then they found a huge gap of cartilage in my knee. It's 2 years post surgery and I still can't jog or play tennis. Day to day activities are better though, bit high impact for me? Nope. I do wonder though of I can somehow get my quad stronger (it's def still weak) if I can do more someday.

If you still has pain, it may be worth getting a high quality MRI and assessing cartilage as damage can lead to pain and inability to run.

I don't want to scare you, but here's some advice: FOLLOW YOUR DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS AFTER THE SURGERY! I had that surgery done about seven weeks ago, and during my recovery period ignored a lot of the restrictions placed on me by the doctor (e.g. walking without locking the brace, sleeping without the brace on, walking with one crutch instead of two sometimes etc). Because of this, the bone didn't heal and I've just had to have the surgery done again. Trust me, the second time around is much worse than the first. I'm sure if you're cautious and responsible about it you'll be glad you got it done, but please be aware of the risks if you don't do what your Dr says.
