I am in SE Ohio. I and out on my property with my dogs every day. But in the last few years we have in addition to the 'standard' dog ticks we have had my entire life we have now been getting the micro sized Deer ticks that can carry lime, and we have gotten the 'Lone Star' tick which look like someone put a single gold colored dot on their back. Both of my dogs were tested positive for Lyme by the Vet last year and treated with antibiotics. The Vets have a simple blood test stick and I don't know why they don't have something for people. I had to argue with my docs to get tested and so far negative even though I have been bitten more than once by the micro tics. They are so small it is hard to believe that they are tics when you first see them. The problem I am having now it that I seem to have developed an allergic reaction to dairy especially milk and sour cream which I have eaten my entire life. This can happen from an 'Alpha Gal' protein allergy you can get from the Lone Star tick bite which I have also been bitten by. (I did take a photo of the tick with my phone). But there is as far as I know no basis test for the protein allergy other than your reaction to mammal meat and dairy. My main symptom is a immediate dry cough if I consume any dairy, or an overly full feeling eating beef. By the way I spray permetherin on my siding and around the house in the spring to keep the wasps and yellow jackets from nesting close to the house.

So it sounds like you got a double whammy with the deer tick and Lone Star tick. Either one will spoil your day if you find them on your body. I soooooo agree with you that they can have an accurate test for our pets but for humans it’s typically a hit or a miss. I hope your doctor will give you antibiotics until the test results come back conclusive. Better to be safe than sorry. Appreciate you watching, sharing your story and commenting.👍TCT

Like your daughter, a family member of ours came down with Lyme and it took years and many health issues before she received an accurate diagnosis. We also went through issues with our dogs and cats and Lyme disease. We worked with Cornell Animal Clinic (Ithaca, N.Y.) for years (bloodwork & urine tests) coming up with a diagnosis of Lyme in our Collies. There is now a vaccine for Lyme in dogs but they won't even test cats. We also discovered in all of this is that a human vaccine was also developed but manufacturers stopped making it because it wasn't profitable. My doctor told me that removing the ticks with the removal tool is best because you don't want to squeeze fluids inside an attached tick back into your blood stream.
@TonysCoolTools
@TonysCoolTools Жыл бұрын
Oh you are so right, it was years before we got a diagnosis because the Wester blot which is very inaccurate came back negative multiple. We found the other test called a PCR is also limited in its accuracy. Thanks for watching , commenting and sharing your story.👍TCT

Lyme disease is not common in Ohio, but we do have ticks and they're one of the few things I'm afraid of. Last year I did not find 1 tick and I only received a few mosquito bites all season. I never sprayed myself and was out nearly every day on 29 acres of land. The reason I believe this happened is because yellow jackets and bald faced hornets took over the farm. I believe they demolished the mosquito and tick population. They also destroyed me several times. We had 2 massive basketball sized bald faced hornet nests. And I counted 12 in ground yellow jacket nests, 4 of which I found while rolling logs over. I would much rather get stung 47 times by yellow jackets then get 1 tick bite though. The last time I found a yellow jacket nest while rolling over a log, I ran so fast and so hard straight to my truck and hopped in and left. I think I could have broken speed records there. I was not getting lit up again that's for sure.
@TonysCoolTools

Jeff, yellow jackets are definitely no fun and I hate getting stung by them when mowing and hitting a ground nest. I agree ticks potentially can leave a much longer health hazard if not found and treated quickly. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

Gene, there are several species of tics, lone star is mostly in the South east. We here in the Midwest have the wood and deer ticks and the west has the spotted mountain ticks. Being a foodie it would be devastating not to be able to eat pork or beef. What we’ve been told is all ticks have potential to carry Lyme as well as mosquitoes. Thanks for watching and commenting👍TCT

Wish I knew about this last year. Ever since I found a large bug bite bump (never seen tick) on my hip in July my health has gone downhill ever since. By September I couldn’t breathe when lying down and just like Chris in the Woodyard I hadn’t been to the doctor in like like 30 years but when you can’t breathe that’s all that matters and I went to ER. After a bunch of tests they couldn’t find anything and since I could breathe while sitting up they sent me home. A couple weeks later I met with my new doctor for more tests. At my 2nd meeting with her I told her about the bump and asked her to test for Lyme disease and a couple days later it came back positive. She got me on a antibiotic a couple days later which I took from Early October through Early November. It did help with my breathing issues and the swelling in my legs & feet but not with the numbness & pain that continues, I’d say 80%+ of my body is in pain or numb and gets worse every day. Also I’m very fatigued and keep losing weight mostly from muscle’s deteriorating. I struggle now to pick up firewood rounds that are over 40 pounds and have been paying my helpers/suppliers to do more and more of the work which means less profits for me It’s getting hard to even walk now, been waiting since December to see a neurologist but don’t go until April 27th. Hopefully I’ll still be able to walk by then? Thanks for the video Tony, I watched the whole thing.

Joe my heart goes out to you. As I mentioned we’ve been dealing with my daughters Lyme for 19 years. I can’t count the number of hospitals and doctors we’ve been to including Mayo Clinic, Loyola Medical Hospital, Madison University. We’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars battling this disease. Like you many of my daughters issues are neurological. I would suggest trying to find a LLMD (Lyme literate medical doctor) in MI. Mainstream doctors give you antibiotics and send you home and many times you have to address the co-infections that are part of this disease. Hopes for a speedy recovery. 👍TCT

@TonysCoolTools Жыл бұрын
John you’re so right most doctors have no idea other than prescribing 7 days of antibiotics. You were lucky you were one of the few that had a bull eye. Many people don’t get that and think they are OK. Many doctors don’t want to give 30 days of antibiotics. The other way is getting antibiotics intravenously in an IV. Once you get it you have to combat the co-infections before the Lyme. Thanks for sharing and commenting.👍TCT

I also suffer from lyme disease. I was not by a tick many years ago when they were just starting to know about lymes. It took 3 hospitals and 3 Dr. to diagnose me. Unfortunately the Dr. only gave me half the amount of antibiotics so a year later I relapsed so ended up starting all over again. To this day I still suffer which I will the rest of my life with aches in my joints. I use the sawyer product every year and have had good luck. Stay safe my friend

Mike I know I get complacent and forget to check often and that’s when i end up finding one embedded. I purchased the Spartan Mosquito Pro Tech and used a home security camera to monitor every insect that arrived at the cap area. After a full week of footage I discovered that not a single mosquito showed up. This was during a time when mosquitoes were extremely common in my yard. My conclusion was that the tubes did not attract mosquitoes at all. I've done a little digging online and it seems that company also has no evidence that mosquitoes are attracted to the tubes when they are deployed outside. So, I'm curious, can you think of a way that the tubes reduce mosquito populations without attracting them? I know that a lot of people believe they work. If you have time this year, would you mind dumping the contents on a white plate and taking a photograph? My guess is that your tubes are full of fruit flies and ants. That's been my experience, at least. After a month or two, all those insects rot to the extent that one might mistake them for a glob of mosquitoes. I'm happy to take a look if you want to send me a high-resolution pic.

Colin, I really appreciate your feedback. All my findings are purely anecdotal, I do not have any scientific proof. With that being said it “feels” like we didn’t get bit as much and it was noticeable. My daughter who lives in a marshy area and has a 1/2 acre pond in her back yard told me she noticed a “significant” difference after she installed the Spartan tubes. If you read the 5000+ reviews they have a 4.2 out of 5 rating which is pretty darn good. Many of the 61% positive Amazon reviews basically say the same thing I did, and that was a noticeable difference in mosquitoes. If you send me your email (tonyscooltools@gmail.com) I will see if I can take a picture of the content of the tubes for you.👍TCT

Ticks and Lyme disease are nothing to take lightly. Main thing is checking ourselves often. The other issue is our pets that bring ticks into our homes so someone who never ventures into the woods can still get bitten. Thanks for watching, sharing your story and commenting. 👍TCT

Thanks for the info. I have been using Sawyers for years with excellent results. We have tons of ticks in NH and I get them regularly. I have had Lyme disease and it is serious. I bought those removers that you recommended as well as the mosquito tubes.

Chris, I’ve found I get really good results with the Sawyer spray. Since we work and play in the woods, it’s not if you’re gonna get bitten by a tick, it’s when! Send a comment after you’ve had a chance to use the tick twister and Spartan mosquito traps. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍TCT

Another great video. i use the yellow spray stuff on all my turkey hunting gear. I have had such an issue with ticks over the past few years. I’m in my early 40s but it never seemed like ticks were an issue growing up when I was in the woods. Thanks for your videos. Always enjoy them

Yup I agree turkey season is where we notice ticks at the beginning of the year. Naturally we are sitting on the ground so it’s easy to get a hitch hiker on our cloths. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

Larry though temperatures are a factor, the fluctuating weather causes ticks to be active longer now even in northern states that are colder. Constantly checking yourself is extremely important. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍TCT

Another Permethrin option which can be found in the equine section of your local farm supply store available in $10 pints or quarts, A $10 pint mixes with water and makes about 3 gallons of .5 % solution which can be poured into your favorite spray bottle.😜 Sawyer brand comes premixed .5% solution in a spray bottle at roughly $1 per ozCOB. Military strength Permethrin spray can be purchased in a 1% solution or make your own 1 1/2 gallons of 1% solution for $10😉

I had a Lyme disease scare as a kid. Ever since then I take tick bites seriously. When I was in the Army we would do mandatory tick checks. “City kids” had no idea about ticks. Lol. Thanks for sharing the products. Will be adding them to our fishing and first aid kits. Really interested in the mosquito deterrent. Going to give it a try.

@@TonysCoolTools At Ft. Benning in summer basic training, we didn't worry too much about ticks because we were always sweating so hard flies and ticks that landed on us would slip and slide right off, hit the ground hard, and the ones that didn't break their legs and wings would get mashed with all the marching feet!! The ones that would hang on, drowned!! It was sooo much fun! Our copyrighted motto was, "What doesn't kill you...... etc" Another one was, "Be careful about wishing for death, you might get it. And make the drill sergeant unhappy, who would then make you verrrry sorry you went and died on him!!!!!"
