I bought a cheap knock off hookaroon from the big A. I was very disappointed in it's sticking power. I sharpened it but was not satisfied. So, I purchased the Logrite pickaroon. Let's just say, you get what you pay for. I have since purchased the Fiskars for my dad and use it when I am helping him. The Fiskars works good also and would recommend the Logrite and Fiskars for anyone looking to make a purchase they will be able to use for a lifetime and not regret the purchase. I made mine out of a kids baseball bat. I Used a telecom drop wire threaded service hanger and made some adjustments with a hammer and used my grinder to sharpen. Zero cost. It works for me

Shane, I had a dump trailer of large rounds to load and found using 2 hookaroons was the easiest and fastest way of moving the wood with the least amount of effort or bending. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍TCT

All the fellas around here tell me that a hook-a-roon has a short handle (similar to a pulp hook) and a pick-a-roon has a long handle (same idea as a ground pick) - have and use both along with a standard pulp hook (replaceable tip - good for frozen rounds) Tks for the vid

Now here is what I’ve been told. The hook-a-roon and pick-a-roon are the same thing except the tip on the pick-a-roon is straight and the hook-a-roon tip is bent like a parrots beak. Sometimes a short handle tool is called a “sappie” and mostly used in milling to help remove boards after they are cut. All I know is I wouldn’t be without either one. They save my back! In addition to all of your excellent tips and uses on wood. I have a major use for my hook-a-roon that benefits me when making small square hay bales. Since my bailer doesn't have a thrower/kicker mechanism, and I don't have someone to ride on my wagon and stack them as they are bailed. I bail the field and simply let each bail fall onto the field. My best use for my hook-a-roon is to drag the bails to organized positions throughout the field so I can just drive up to the accumulated bails and load my wagons without walking extra steps.

If the handle is slippery (on any tool) wrap it with hockey stick tape. I got a roll and it works wonders on any tool you need a good grip on!

I have one of the Log Ox ones, I find the handle too heavy to be comfortable for what it does. And the tip doesn't stick unless you hit it exactly right. I've also smashed the clip on the pin a bunch of times as well. I also have the Forester ones and the Fiskar XA22. The Fiskar is my favorite. the tip sticks really easy, and the light weight is great for extended continuous use. With one in each hand I can flip or roll huge rounds with little effort. I personally find the Log Ox 3 in one entire tool setup to be a good backup, but not a good primary. I would much rather have two Fiskar or Forester Picks and one good dedicated log roller for the long trunk logs. Just my personal experience after trying several jobs with different combinations of logging tools.

Dick I don’t want to call us Sr, Woodhounds because there is a 93 yr old on the east coast that is still bucking up logs but the hookaroon and pickaroon definitely help me last longer in the woodyard. Great explanation of the log handling tools. I use the Logrite pickaroon. I keep one in the cab and one next to the splitter wedge. Logrite makes a ton of different log handling tools. Good video!

Hi Tony, thanks for your reviews. I've bought a couple Fiskars log tongs and and a hookaroon after seeing your reviews (and with Chris)...knowing that they would struggle with our Australian hardwood, as you said. And they do struggle a bit but are still a lot better than nothing for saving my back. Probably because of that they are not something you see much here in Oz and Fiskars was the only brand I could get. But we have quite a few Fiskars gardening tools so know they are good quality.

From my experience the Logrite is the Cadillac. Sure the others work as well. But the LogOx is too clunky and heavy, sure it does a few jobs if you have the whole system. But I rather have tools that are purpose built and work exceedingly well.

Of all the great tools Fiskars has made over the years and their great warranties. The pick aroon is not one of them,which is disappointing. The reviews and comments on YT seem to all be the same. The tip breaks to easily. Some are able to get 1 replacement but Fiskars bulks at 2nd replacement and others have been put on loooong waiting list. Until the metal issue can be fixed. I would probably suggest anything but them...👍

Wayne that’s interesting, Fiskars is definitely the lightest and has the thinnest tip. With that being said Fiskars Hookaroon has an overall 4.6 rating on Amazon with sales of 3098 units and 79% of the 3098 has a 5 star rating. Evidently a bunch of Woodhounds are buying them. I’m wondering if Fiskars has gone to a different metal other than Boron steel? I appreciate you letting me know as well as watching and commenting 👍TCT

@TonysCoolTools I know some folks can break an anvil, but I have seen/read several reviews of it on YT and lots of comments. They are definitely dragging their feet on warranty issues with them...Menards sell one also that folks have a lot of issues with, but I think it is the handle on theirs. I personally have not ever owned any of them and prefer to do things the hard way. I go with the "Use it or lose it, philosophy!" 🤠
