I am in no way a musical person..in fact, I despise them. I swear, when I watched the teaser for Tick Tick..Boom, I replayed “Bo bo bobo bo..” a thousand times and since watching the movie 3 times now…30/90 has its own playlist and I bawled my eyes out at the ending. I even went on KZbin to watch the video of Rent with its original/premiere cast, the one where they had no set designs, just raw emotion on stage and watch Larson play 30/90 is just heartbreaking. You can see the passion for the craft exuding and for him to die so tragically. I hope the doctor that misdiagnosed his condition, as “just the flu” was/is forever haunted by Jonathan Larson

I would not have thought of Garfield if casting this movie myself, but seeing it proves he is PERFECT as Jonathan Larson. From the look to the mannerisms to the essence, it really connects seamlessly with every video I've ever seen of Larson (mostly in connection to Rent). Plus, he has a good voice - especially for having never sung before!

Believe it or not, he was scared shitless to film this scene (because it was a one take impromptu a capalla solo that’s meant as a song to work the crowd up and Garfield was not much of a singer) If I didn’t hear that from Andrew himself, I wouldn’t believe it. He just feels so natural here.

What amazes me is that Andrew apparently really didn’t know how to sing. He needed a year and a half of voice classes. It’s amazing. EDIT, 2/7/22: So just before this song, there’s a guy who says he sang madrigals in high school, right? And it was weird in the scene. But now that Disney’s “Encanto” is super popular-LMM connected that movie to this one with that one reference. But we didn’t necessarily know that if we hadn’t watched “Encanto” in theaters, before this movie was released on Netflix.

Amazing movie, and what a performance by Andrew Garfield!! He deserves an Oscar for this, and the movie does too. Wonderful!!!

Love this movie. Garfield deserves the Oscar for this performance. Populating the film with Broadway performers esp. the "Sunday" bit -- brilliant because Broadway was Larson's dream, goal, paradise.

I will never accept Jonathan Larson was a boomer and has the same birth year as my out of touch mom. I cannot fathom that he'd be sixty had he lived, he's the eternal voice of youth forever young

I admit I was pleasantly surprised to see Andrew picked to play Jonathan. And knowing he had virtually no musical training and dedicated a year to develop his voice and learn the piano, now I can't seem to see anyone else doing this part ♥️

I just watched this movie for the first time last night, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. It was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. This was one of my favorite scenes of the entire film because it’s such a celebration of life and friends, just like Rent was later on. Such a good movie!

As someone who’s Daddy brought them up on musicals, this is a HUGE MUST!!! Knowing who Jonathan was, knowing the backstory to RENT, this is the ULTIMATE!! As much as I love it, it breaks my heart!! xxx

His astounding singing abilities aside, his body language is impressive, too. He's just so expressive, his movements flow with such ease. I don't know, but that is something that always captivates me about his performances. I watched him in Angels in America (the NTLive recording, unfortunately, not the live play) and every single gesture he does conveys so much emotion...

If they didn't say in the beginning of the movie that this is the life of Jonathan Larson, I would have taken it that this is Andrew's real life story. He really embodied the character. He really did great👏🏼 This is my first time seeing Alexandra Shipp in a musical singing. She did great. All the cast did great
