I was wondering why they didn’t portray it like this and I think they wanted to contrast the argument Andrew Garfield’s character and his girlfriend that was happening simultaneously during this song. They wanted the song to sound sillier and match the instrumental because at the end of the day arguments like that is silly. Hence why the lyrics and instrumental is fun like that.
@sumeetbhonsle29752 жыл бұрын
it's more like here they are having an argument and in the movie the argument's already over.. so there's a sense of helplessness and sadness in their expressions
@kyleburgess28342 жыл бұрын
The beauty of film is that you can get two contrasting performances and emotions with Jon and Susan fighting and cutting to Jon and his backup singer performing the song in the satirical over the top performances they give. Meanwhile, Theatre is more in the moment and the actual song is a fight between Jon and Susan in real time. Both wonderful renditions in two very different mediums.

It’s cause in the movie it’s just a silly little song but in the stage version it’s the actual fight!! Love the contrast

Lin may not be as good a singer in this but his ability to write music and to tell this story are profound. There is no better person (other than Jonathan Larsen himself but we have been deprived of his presence) to tell this story. I feel like he is channeling Jonathan himself. So, he'll never be cast as the principal role in Les Miz or as Roger in Rent. He hardly needs it.

This is probably the best musical song to watch live. I've seen it live three times now, and it never disappoints.

So does Lin Manuel Miranda's tiny little subtle angry, but also having fun, smile.

i don’t usually love lin’s vocals but they’re actually really nice in this song
@misspelledmonth4263 жыл бұрын
This is amazing, personally I liked the version in the movie. The passive aggressiveness, the irony and the condescending tones in Andrew and Vanessa’s acting really sold it, a lot less loud and in your face but super effective.

I'm so glad Lin directed this movie and gave this story a wider audience and more recognition like he deserved for his own personal story (since a lot of people don't know he made Rent and that he died before his success)

I see the genius in the song now… you can literally hear the un synchronization between them halfway thru when one is speaking fast while the other is taking their time, the only time u see them synchronized is when they agree about going to get rest haha
