It's not about yourself. Wearing a regular mask is mainly to keep your potentially infected Spitballs from getting to other people when you speak to them. If everyone wears a mask, then the general Chance of infection is significantly decreased. Not 0% but still enough to be a little at ease. The point here is, that EVERYONE has to wear a mask, because he could be infected and have no clue about it. TL:DR If everyone protects others from him/herself then everyone is safer. Kind of similar to vaccines.

I believe that the masks help from breathing or some people spit when they talk on someone..or if you might be sick it might help..however the mask alone is not enough that's why the six feet because the virus particles are so microscopic it can still get through the mask..especially because we are not wearing the n95 that has to be fitted for your specific face.

Vic I couldn't have said it any better! I have been looking on FB since the beginning of this pandemic and no one is discussing the severity of this disease in regard to how deadly this virus is. Not one! They're talking about toilet paper and leaving masks in your shopping cart and people are not saying a word about how this pandemic has affected our daily lives and if they know anyone who is going through this how the hospitals operate? Or once you are found to be positive which means you have contracted the Corona virus Nothing on FB No one speaks about those people or their feelings or what their families have to go through! These are stories that we should be sharing with each other so that God forbid one of our family members gets contracted with this disease what happens next? You hit the nail right on the head when you spoke about no one is working together as one whole nation in order to surpass and overcome the obstacles we're facing with regard to this deadly disease. It spreads that disease everywhere for everyone to touch, and if you are close enough sometimes breath in themselves. I dont know why everyone is so ticked off about wearing a mask, doesnt bother me in the least. I was out and about yesterday and had several conversations with my fellow American's, no one seemed to even noticed they had masks on. We were all laughing and gabbing, piece of cake. People need to be patient and calm themselves down. My grand parents and parents lived through all of what Vic talked about and guess what, not one complaint out of their mouths, ever. They toughened up and got things done. It wasnt a walk in the park for them either.

They do wear masks now because of this virus. What isn't understood by vic here is the doctors wearing masks during surgery get clean, fresh, masks every surgery for every new case to protect a steril environment for the patient. Nurses and hospital staff are wearing the same, dirty, torn up mask for 13 hrs. We don't get to change our masks unless it breaks or gets soiled. They are meant to be worn and discarded between patients. Not worn consistently from room to room, patient to patient. This is why it is being said they don't work. Now we can wear our own masks so its better than it was.

@Arky2012 Thank you for the clarification 😊 To answer that, the idea of putting a mask on every patient is bonkers. Unless someone has an illness that is a) contagious and b) spread via airborne particles, then masking them would be a total waste of money and resources. For those with suspected contagious respiratory conditions, it is standard here for them to be issued with a mask (this was the case pre-covid, too). Furthermore, masks cause issues for medical staff monitoring non-viral conditions. For example, in stroke patients, a key symptom is the mouth dropping to one side. Can't see that through a mask. It also prevents non-touch monitoring of facial injuries and can cause problems with wound management, etc. Masks are great when used appropriately, but they're not a panacea.

I have a heart defect and had heart surgery. My cardiologist says I should not cover my face for long periods of time to keep my oxygen levels good. I still wear a mask! I wear one at work at a hospital all day long except when I'm in my office with the door shut. If I can wear a mask, 99% of people can also wear a mask. Since I don't work directly with COVID patients, I only wear a surgical mask or a cloth mask. That still does the job in normal circumstances. Wear a bandana, wear a scarf, whatever you got.

Considering your health issue its important that you take in as much oxygen as your body is needing. Masks lower your oxygen intake. I personally would totally understand you refraining from mask wearing. I feel sad that you are choosing to continue to wear one.

Randy Bailey: You aren’t breathing heavy and spraying saliva while shopping (hopefully). People go to the gym to do exactly that. That’s why gyms should be the absolute last places to open. You can your running in and do other exercised outside, you don’t need a gym. The real reason it is such an issue with gyms specifically is because of all the juiced-up muscle heads who inhabit gyms are losing some size or watching their strength drop and can’t believe it.
