Courts will have to judge on Hindenburg. In my opinion short sellers are important for a functioning stock market but they have to be taken responsible for false information. If there is a problem on the balance sheet or income statement and a shortseller identifies it -> go for it and take profit. If the shortseller spreads fake news to make fast money -> fight them with lawsuits until the shortseller is bankrupt

The problem is that Hindenburg usually takes short positions on the stocks it puts out investigative reports on. Clearly not passing the smell test. Last year, Hindenburg took up a short position on the Adani group, then put out a bombshell report rehashing a lot of publicly available information, causing immense panic and causing the Adani group to crash by about 50%. Hindenburg made money doing all this. The Adani group has since recovered fully -- clearly discrediting the Hindenburg effort.

I've seen these Hindenberg hit jobs before, and the problem is that they can, by accident, uncover just enough malfeasance to harm a stock. Also, even if the company is completely innocent, it is likely that their share price will fall. Add that to macroeconomic issues, and it could fall a lot. This should be illegal.

Great report and research. "gamesmanship" is going on in all companies and to think otherwise is foolish. The issue at hand is the idea of shorting. I believe as a longterm investor, shorting should never be allowed. Never. It takes advantage of the biggest emotional aspect of investing: fear. When a stock is driven down due to shorting, it also impacts the company itself as it hinders its ability to get more capital. I have become very disheartened by certain aspects of stock investing and this one is the number one issue I hate about investing.

I dont think so. First off all valuations indicate the price should be around 140-150$ (at this moment the stock is undervalued). The stock has ran up strongly around 26,000% so dont expect it to go any higher. Is it better than a saving account? Offcourse! But dont be sold on the idea that it will go up 100%

I added to my position at 440 taking a longer term hold of 3-5 years or more this value is 1.84 x sales trailing 12 and a triple digit growth rate and a forward PE around 13 there’s room to grow and some margin of safety as far as I’m concerned.

Though Hindenburg’s report is negative, I don’t believe there’s anything in there that is not factual. I doubt you can sue for someone pointing out facts about a company, however negative they may be or what happens to the stock price.

tbh the export controls issue looks very suspicious, I happen to be involved in export control and audit, and they should have systems that flag up customers that have blacklisted on export controls. Usually any flag gets reviewed by financial officers who should be audited. There is potential for problems if they haven’t implemented adequate internal audit standards, that should be part of their annual external auditors report.

Hindenburg publishes these reports this time of year and then everyone piles in to short. They will be back next year too. SMCI will still have most of these relationships and the dirty laundry will still bring the stock down deserving or not. It will never be over. I guess if you buy after the big short and sell before the next attack, you might make some money? Or join in and short? Hindenburg Reports is a nasty business.

I think the declines came mostly because it's widely overvalued and they have 2 billion in in negative free cash flow which is more difficult to fake plus they delayed their SEC filing.

and again....SMCI is LOW MARGIN BUSINESS ONLY. They offer no high margin solution (i.e. services, software, etc.) unlike Dell, HPE, IBM, etc... All Dell, HPE, and IBM did was use SMCI as the guinea pig as AI solution hardware isn't standardized. Once the industry standardized AI solutions, Dell, HPE, etc quickly adopted it and added their IP, and deployed at scale because they have the resources and capacity to do so. Again, stated this all months ago which you ignored.

I’m selling my 10 shares at a loss. It was $611/ share when I bought it but I absolutely do not want to be invested in any company that is in anyway helping to prop up Russia. Russia is a country that could be bombing us at some point in the future! I’d rather sell at a loss and invest in the S&P 500. Why do you believe that the report was conveniently filed one day before SMCI's announcement of delaying the 10k, and not the other way around. which is that SMCI announced the delay after seeing the short report?

Because there's been a sharp rise in 10-k filing delays in general. Much more likely that Hindenburg found out SMCI was going to delay and rushed out a report than the other way around (in my opinion, of course)

Hindenburg reports range from small mistakes to outright fraud. This appears to me in the small mistakes category. Getting the financials of private companies is super hard so maybe there is more to it. If I want to buy this business with a 10 year outlook I would hope to see revenues and net income double. That is all that matters. HPE does server racks for NASA to send to space, universities, and other pretty stable government backed entities. I am not sure I want to own another one that is also in the SPY. I already own the SPY.

I don’t understand why people always say I’m going to build a position. I get DCA but that’s not what I’m talking about. If I have researched a stock and decided to buy it, I allocate a percentage of my bag to that one stock and I buy it with that percentage. I may add to it, but in my entire life I’ve never “built” a position and I really believe I’m way ahead because of it.

Just subscribed. You have well researched and clear analysis. I can see where SMCI has advantages with the family relationship. It is both a plus and a minus. More stability in vertical infrastructure and production but may not represent real costs and value. One part of the supply chain sacrificing for another. As you said: When will SMCI possibly take the hit so the other companies can profit? Internal shifting of profit and loss may not disclose the true value of SMCI stock. Would be interested in more on Dell.
