Tried something new and it might have worked but I made a questionable decision in the midgame.

I probably would have taken the Dallas stuff too. But I would have tried to connect NY and Montreal through Sault st Marie(Plus maybe Toronto) and skipped the Raleigh ticket. You went through Nashville, which is great if you get to draw again and hit something with it, but it takes a lot of turns and you didn't have anything else you needed to connect in the south-east other than Raleigh. Great early game had you picking all the routes you wanted and for a while you were setting the pace and forcing opponents to redirect. But then you lost momentum doing small routes and stalled getting pairs to slowly lay down low-value routes

Only thing that i honestly think i would've changed was second to last turn going atlanta to raleigh, rather than grabbing a couple more trains so that you could've connected the routes you had on the board, other than that its part of the game. Ultimately didn't mattered though.

Why didn’t you use a white to grab Nashville to Atlanta, then use the wild and 2nd white to connect?

yeah there wasn't a midgame mistake, it was an endgame mistake

To be fair he still needed to get down into Dallas to complete the remaining tickets, and connecting east to west wouldn’t have earned longest train bonus so he was cooked regardless. Go for the W next game!

honestly i think this highlights why you keep la to new york. would've been maybe tough to get into la but it's way less things you need to get than hooking up your midgame routes, plus you potentially block green in the process (or you both just end up horribly blocked). dunno if i bother with the winnipeg route, winnipeg routes are generally never worth taking.

This showcased how unproportional valuable those long routes are. Not only do you score way more points on board with them but they also put your opponents under pressure. One route of six scores you 15 points and only costs you one turn to play, while lets say your opponent plays two routes of three scoring them only 8 points and costing them 2 turns to get down, punishing them pacewise and pointwise.

yeah, you basically need a destination ticket to justify taking a short route.

I think the mistake was taking Montreal to Raleigh. The benefit of doing all those short little routes wasn't worth the number of turns it took. Getting into Dallas to complete the tickets you missed was more than 2 turns away, even if you'd found a way to save the black, so I don't think that's what killed you

There was one way to actually not have failed. There was no reason to connect the to networks, so you should not have taken Kansas city to Saint Louis and Saint Louis to Nashville. That would have saved two turns. Still not enough. The extra turn could have been saved by not taking the fourth black and instead have taken two pinks. Denver to Omaha and Nashville to Raleigh would have saved the third turn. You continuosly make the same two fundamental mistakes. You always go for longest route, even if you can't get it and it is detrimental for your game. And you always insist on going from Denver to Kansas City, even though Denver to Omaha and Denver to Oklahoma City often are better for you.

Mistake was at the start, not taking the big ticket. You went to the far east anyway.
