Yes, yes, yes! The great transport shuffle of the 70's. Nothing much has changed since then, we just dance to a different tune now. The South Steyne ferry sailed from Scotland under her own steam. The Orcades at the Overseas Passenger terminal. The Opera house still not finished. The AMP building with its observation deck and cafe. The wooden ferries and Hydrofoyle. The Red Ratler and Leyland buses. I just got ready for school, wait!! I am 68. I got carried away. Thanks for the memories.

Hope you might like to see more of the Orcades circa 1950 from the viewpoint of the steam tugs in Melbourne from the ACMI collection : kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZrOd2Ota6eYmKs I find the whole film of interest too from a talented amateur filmmaker on 16mm .

The Barragoola at 8:09. Recently sank in Sydney Harbour. The smog at the end of the film shows how much the city has cleaned up since 1971

I remember as a child seeing that red amphibicar driving in the water near the botanic gardens at the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973. I was amazed.

Well, I didn’t see myself in the crowds, but I was there from April to August 1971, and this film exactly captures my experience in the hustle bustle of downtown Sydney. Walked the Harbor Bridge one Saturday, went to the top of Australia Square, went aboard HMS Eagle when she visited that summer, rode the ferry and the double decker buses and the trains, walked my legs off every chance I got, before departing to the western Outback. Loved Sydney, still do!

Incredible film which has not aged at all. I can imagine in 50-100+ years it will still be the same

It must be said this is quality editing and camera work. You do not see this on TV these days nowhere to feature it.

Thanks Steve. The film makers might have been working for the government film unit and their work not widely seen but the were very professional and creative and took their craft seriously.

Tell me about it Brian! I grew up in Dee Why in the 50's- 60's. Amazing to again see the hydrofoil (the "Dee Why") overtake the South Steyne en route to the Quay. And the first car I drove was my Dad's EH!
