Nice, the AU will be a behemoth in the future. Visa free travel is coming, the free trade area that is being implemented will be the largest in the world. Single currency is still far but each region can have theirs, ecowas for example is planning on implementing single currency withing the next few years.

The African Union should take lessons from the flaws of the Euro 💶 Rather than having a single currency for the entire continent, they should focus on having 4 or 5 regional currencies for the continent of Africa. Like a separate currency for North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa & Southern Africa. That way they can easily manage the inflation of these regional currencies & it'll be more convenient for the people to use. In Europe, north European countries are cool with having a strong euro but the south European countries don't like that & have constantly been demanding a weaker euro for the south European countries. South European countries generally have weaker economies compared to their northern European neighbors. #CurrenciesForAU #MistakesOfTheEuro
@thebridge54835 жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea, we are starting with regional currency west Africa will be the first region to start using a single currency starting next year

Good suggestion. There is a monetary union in Southern Africa, but it's not a single currency yet.
@legacyfly7624 жыл бұрын
They need one currency. Africa and it's people have been divided for so long. Why divide the currency?
@lu8814 жыл бұрын
@@legacyfly762 Because that's not how money works. A single currency means that it is affected by the weakness of other African economies, and the wars, and the weak governments, corruption and basically every unrest in the continent. All this impacts the currency and economy as a whole negatively. Which means less development for the continent because promising economies have now been tainted with the struggling ones. So a DIVERSIFIED currency means that African economies and countries that are more stable (like Botswana) can gather investment from both inside and outside the continent, and that can result in the invested countries trickling down their investments, into other African economies.

As an Indian, I hope India will continue to provide significant support to boost the African Union. It will result in major direct and indirect benefits for India and the rest of the world. Imagine an African Union with a nominal per capita GDP around 10 to 15k USD in the next 2 to 3 generations. It will be a major driver for the global GDP growth and economic stability of the world. I hope for African Union to make improvements in: 1. Robust and ubiquitous Intra-continental supply chain 2. Agricultural self-sufficiency 3. Security 4. Low cost, widely available education (free will just not be sustainable) 5. Low cost, widely available healthcare and diagnostics Finally - Don't do single currency. It will drag the whole union down, and make it fail before it can achieve anything meaningful. It's a BAD idea. Wishing you all the best Africa. You will go on to make great achievements and contributions to the whole world. Stay strong, stay united.

Beautiful video.I am an African citizen,I hope and wish luck to the leaders of Africa and the African Union.If our union can make progress as the E.U has, it would represent a major change in the quality of life of Africans and the world at large.Just think of how many brilliant people are born in the continent and die without reaching their potential,this not only represents a loss for Africa but for the whole world.I mean think of people like Einstein,Tesla,Bill Gates and many others of how they contributed to their nations success, and look at their tremendous contribution to the whole human race and the world.

The impact of the AU on the lives of ordinary Africans has been so limited. One of the key challenges faced by the AU is the lack of free movement of people within the continent. Many African countries require visas for Africans to enter their territories, making it difficult for Africans to travel and do business within the continent. Moreover, the cost of travel within the continent is often prohibitively expensive, with airfare prices being significantly higher than those for traveling to Europe or Asia. This makes it difficult for Africans to explore other parts of the continent or to engage in economic activities with their neighboring countries. To achieve unity among African countries, it is imperative to address these challenges. Improving education and movement within the continent will help to connect people and build a sense of community among Africans. This will not only promote economic growth but also strengthen political ties and enhance the overall quality of life for people on the continent.

Correction: Somaliland was a separate country during the colony; after its independence, Somaliland tried to form a union with Somalia. At that time, Somalia was still under an Italian colony. We waited until they got their independence, There was no ratified union between the two countries, and the union became dysfunctional. Somaliland become Independent country after that.
