Hello Andy! I just found this youtube and I'm really excited about it.. My name is Debbie Stancil Hall. I live in North Carolina, USA. I have traced my 1683 immigrate John Stansall back to Chesterfield, Derbyshire where he was born in 1661. Unfortunately I'm stuck at his father Godfrey but i'm sure their ancestors must go back to the ancient village of Stancil in Tickhill. I loved seeing Tickhill in your video. Thank you!!

You're welcome! I've literally done all of Chesterfield as well now, did you know where in Chesterfield he was from?

@@TheVillageIdiot Great, I'll look for your video! I will never be able to come there, but this is the next best thing! I'm sure you have many fans who have seen their ancestors' homeland thanks to you. Where they lived? I have a document showing Godfrey Stansall either bought a parcel of land or sold one. I'll have to look that up. It's been a long time since I've looked at it. I'm sure you will cover it in your video though. I will post it in the comments if I can understand what its saying.. haha! I'll keep watching! Thank you again, Debbie

Hello Andy, its Sunday, 2:40pm here now. I think I remember you being 5 hours later there. I got out the May 1683 Godfrey Stansall/George Heathcote "indenture" I told you about. I have been meaning to take it, as well as another document, to my local Mormon Church; Latter Day Saints research center to have someone interpreted them for me.. but for now I will list the locations named so maybe you will know where in Chesterfield Godfrey lived. "...said messuage dwelling house or Tenement Shopp and chamber are situated at the east end of the Shambles in Chesterfield aforesaid one stable at the south end of the said Shamble in the possession of the said Godfrey Stansall and adjoining........(others)..... near Halliwell cross in Chesterfield...........Skinner croft and lying and being near Tapton Hall in the parish of Chesterfield aforesaid one butt or parcel of land containing.............lying and being in Sidnall field..........and also one other parcel of land containing.............butting upon A Close called Twelve Acres lying and being in Silverinfields in the Manor of Tapton in the parish of Chesterfield." Shewww! What a mouth full! Thank you Andy

...this might be helpful with location. The indenture says Godfrey was a ropemaker. A Peter Stansall, who I believe was Godfrey's brother or uncle, was a ropemaker too. Peter inherited 'his father' Peter's ropemaking business in Chesterfield, which was located probably either on the Southside of BEETWELL ST. or on low pavement, where the long back crofts would have provided ample space for a ropewalk.. (taken from Philip Riden's book; History of Chesterfield, vol II, part 1.) Andy, I come across this and though since Godfrey was a ropemaker he probably worked with Peter on Beetwell St. if so, his workplace couldn't have been far from where he lived. Just a thought ♡ :-)

@@debbiehall7016 Ok so I've studied the map of these location and it seems to me that BRIMINGTON will be the closest video of mine to where he lived. Beetwell Street is right in Chesterfield town centre, so that won't be shown (Chesterfield is an unparished area), but Tapton Hall is very very close to Brimington. At the end of the video I walk down the canal which is the closest point I get to it

Great video. I grew up in Tickhill and my parents still live there. I found this video very interesting and I learnt a lot about our history.

Thanks for the reminder! I used to visit friends in Tickhill, and stayed there for a while till I rented a place back near town. Used to love the bus ride from Balby to Tickhill, once you hit the countryside - sitting upstairs gave a great view, and going over Bubup Bridge in/near Loversall- great names! I think on the outskirts is Warning Tongue Lane! In the Summer it's gorgeous, did you know that other side of the Cricket Ground is a Residential Caravan Park? Hidden behind the houses, adjoining a field. Very friendly folk of all ages and backgrounds, run by Doncaster Council, I wanted to live there! You bought your own caravan either on site or brought in a replacement, and paid Ground Rent. Very affordable and decent size plots for a garden etc. Wondered if it was still up and running, haven't been there since about 2002! Some interesting old buildings, the Castle was quite spooky in Autumn /Winter - lots of Crows or Rooks nesting in the trees, and cawing away! Very picturesque, great for families if you can afford it. Shame you had bad weather - I miss the lovely fresh air there - waking up in the morning in the Summer - lovely grassy smell near the Cricket Ground and birds singing. God's Own Country alright!

I'm pretty sure Rowland Bridge House used to be occupied by Jeremy Clarkson and his family? I know originally they came from near Skellow but I'm certain it was that very house they lived in as there was a news article about it when it went up for sale once referring to him! Fun fact also his mother created the famous Paddington bear Teddy bears! The more you know eh? Keep it up liking the local information to my surrounding areas (I live in Bramley, Rotherham but love exploring myself!)

Yes the Burghwallis episode covered Clarkson 😁

There is also a rather large park off Sunderland Street...which is where the large events are held such as the Tickhill Gala.

Tickhill Castle although private opens to the public one Sunday afternoon in the year. It's Scarbrough in Lord Scarbrough not as the town. Good to see Tickhill
