TID Radio TD-H3 Post-Firmware Update Issues

I have also found that reception is much more open with BT on. I was picking up the audio from my TV show.

I returned mine as it was glitching in strange ways. Biggest issue was transmitting on wrong channels regularly. Update: got hold of another one and have been using it regularly. It’s a great radio

Good advice. I found with my radio (GMRS out-of-the-box) that I didn't need to hold down the PPT button during the upgrade process but might have just been lucky holding it down for two seconds or so. So far no issues with low power.

I used the Tidradio software to update my TD-H3 and only had to hold down the PTT while powering the radio on. Will keep your advice in my back pocket in case i have any troubles in the future. Also I have heard that some people are using the USB-C cable to flash firmware. That may also cause issues. I used a Kenwood cable as is recommended in the readme just to be sure.

Updated to Ver240530. Afterward, I read the radio in both CHIRP (20240531 build) and TIDRADIO CPS. All my 220 channels were blanked, but the 220 channels still existed in the radio, as before the successful update. 200TX menu option was still ON.

Mine updated just fine and I did not hold down the PTT button. I simply held the PTT and turned it on and let go and it updated first try. Mine did not switch to low power either.

The only change I noticed is that the carrot will move to the line you're transmitting on but the frequency still shows the frequency the carrot *was* on until after your first transmission. They also didn't fix the issue where in SYNC OFF you can still transmit on the B freq with PTT 2 even though you can't hear it because it sets D. WAIT to off and will not let you even turn it back on. I also don't understand why any radio in CTCSS/DCS scan continues to iterate even in absence of a carrier. The original UV-5R model of only iterating while it's got a carrier makes way more sense.

Out of the blue, mine has decided not to enter the programming mode when turning on holding PTT. I'm on version 240416. Tried a full reset, but no joy. Any ideas please (apart from buy another!)?

I used the USB-A/USB-C cable to update the firmware on the first attempt. Held the PTT while turning power ON, then released PTT. Voila, success ! But, hey - now I have a possible fix for any further firmware update problems.

I updated mine and now it won’t hit any repeaters. They’re all set on high. I even reset my radio and set up the frequencies manually. Cannot hit the repeaters. I can hit the repeaters with any of my other radios. Any suggestions or is there any way of going backwards and taking out that update?

I ended up emailing the company and after a few attempts to fix it, they sent me a new radio. Excellent customer service.

It didn’t do the low power thing for me. But, I use their Odmaster web portal via Bluetooth instead of chirp.

I just bought two TD-H3 radios and they are using firmware version 240416. I have not updated the firmware because after reading the comments section, I'm actually afraid to update and have more of a problem than a solution for other little bugs. I've tried setting up a ptt-id which seems to only work using the manufacturer's software, but there is a delay of about 1 to 1.5 seconds before it sends it which also mutes the mic in the process. Can anyone tell me how to send that ID immediately like the Baofengs do? I can't find any way to adjust the delay.

My radio worked perfect the first day I received it then I put it on charge, after I took it off charge now it won’t hit any of my repeaters I had programmed the day before! Contacted tidradio and they are sending me a new one. Anyone have that problem? It still transmits just lower power, it’s set to high power.. 240416 firmware.

Thank goodness i never did any updates on my radio. The static at the end of transmission wasn't a big deal for me.

You do not have to hold the PTT on during the entire load.

Perhaps, but it worked when I did it and I'm starting to get a little superstitious with this particular radio. It's part tech and part voodoo now at this point.

This is a comment for Scott. Now that you've been using your radio for quite some time, and updated the firmware a number of times, can you make a video about how it's behaving at this point. I'm worried about updating my firmware because the comments and replies below seem to imply the updates cause other issues. I'd love to hear exactly how you feel the radio is behaving at this point.

I only did the one firmware update. But there have been several more since then. In addition, there are some people that have been hacking the firmware on a Facebook group called TD-H3 Hacking. So, some wild stuff is being done. Some useful and some just plain bonkers. I'm definitely going to be covering this very soon because I think it's starting to get a bit ridiculous and counter productive.

I followed your advice completely, including reading that read me file. Both radios worked on the first try. Thank you for this video 👍. I'm hoping Tidradio releases a firmware version that lets you adjust the ptt-id delay though. Even with the 240702 update the delay is still there. But, this new version added Menu 33 as a backlight brightness adjustment. Nice feature.

This is a known issue with Chirp. The CPS of the radio didn’t do this to me.

Totally agree..TD-H3 full of issues…really disappointed…My BF-F8+ have less features but Transmits and reception are way better…and problem free..

I can say the same about all the American software houses who develop software, Testing ? Mate everything that is controlled by software this days will have issues, because Code has issues, get used to it, it's not a chinese problem. Windows has issues, Games have issues, Electric cars have issues, they all controlled by software.

Tidradio really isn’t that good a radio. I’ve got both the H8 and H3, and they’re my least liked radios. IMO, someone is really better off with a UV-5R that you can unlock that either of these radios. Neither of mine receive signals on any freq as good as my $13 5R. They’re always staticky, on pretty much any antenna. It’s just that you can reduce the amount of static if you use a good aftermarket antenna (Nagoya 771). Otherwise… they seem to be the most overhyped IHF radios out there.

I think imo the bluetooth is one of the best things offored and should have been added to the UV5R MANY YEARS AGO to aliviate the issues with everyone has debated about which cable to use for programming. HELLO! And what about the Boufeng 8 watt that has been out for about 7 years or so why not make them all 8 watt or 10 watt with bluetooth instead of 10 or 15 different models. I have many Boufengs, models etcetera I like all of them including the H3! If I were to guess it would be they are all cousins or may be step children mean they could all be nearly blood relatives.

Y’all need to give TID a chance. SOC is cutting edge technology and Im hopping that as it matures we’ll see some great new features (hacks) that will set these radios apart from the rest of the pack.
