Do you require a rod licence for this far up the Usk? I was led to believe that anything past the transporter bridge needed a licence.

Hi, no you don't need a rod license this far up as long as your rig/bait is targetting sea fish and the tides are still mainly 'in' and the water is brackish. I was talking to someone at Nature Wales last year and basically, anything below the George Street Bridge is permitted and not challenged. Upstream of George Street Bridge and the bailiffs may challenge you and check what tackle you have in your bag etc. Just make sure you don't have anything that could be classed as freshwater tackle or bait and you should be ok. And don't fish at the low tide when the Usk is mainly freshwater rather than salt or brackish. But I have a rod licence anyway. It's cheap enough and helps support funding of the sport.
