I hate to be one to disagree with you but I do. Keep in mind I am only seeing your kitchen thru my monitor and not in real life. I think your kitchen is stunning! I love the bank of windows. The space between the windows give you kitchen great balance and a grand feel that may not be there if it was one long window. The two tone paint choice is on point! Giving me pause as I begin my second kitchen remodel. I froze the video where you talk about your windows, it looks like it should be in a magazine! As far as my remodel regrets!

Cami, I am actually shocked that your regrets are so substantial. As a mere observer, your kitchen came together beautifully and with great functionality. The truth is, we can only make what we hope are our best choices within the framework of time and resources we have when we make them. What we think of such choices after the fact should probably be chalked up to distorted hindsight. I think you know in your heart that you and your husband have created an enviable kitchen space, one that will naturally evolve into something even more wonderful over time. Cheers, Ardith

I agree with you completely on the table. I just don't like white furniture, and I think a beautiful, dark wood table would be so elegant and eye popping. (And, admittedly, more masculine.) But those windows, I love them so much. The transoms and top grids add so much visual interest. I would definitely choose something like that if I were doing a kitchen again.

@janatalafuse9293 жыл бұрын
It all looks beautiful! Your table is an easy fix. Just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and buy some interesting looking wooden table legs, stain and finish them, and replace the table's current legs. A second, easier option would be to paint the current legs, possibly a wood color. The added "warmth" of wood will give your kitchen a new dimension.

I absolutely love your kitchen! As for my mistake - we painted all the cherry wood cabinets that were in the house we just purchased with mineral paint in the colour "Raw Silk". It's a warm creamy white which we love, that goes beautifully with the copper handles and lighting in the space. It was the breath of fresh air this 130 year old farmhouse needed and I'm so glad we did it. This creamy white looked beautiful for about a day and a half! We have 3 dogs, one who is a 65lb. puppy who loves to dig and play outside. There are constantly paw smudges on the lower cabinets and they aren't as wipeable as the mineral paint rep said they'd be.

1. I didn't change the floor. When we bought the home the floors reminded me of my late Father's flat. But afterward I thought they should have went. 2. I went with black quartz. After a year water rings developed and I had to fight with the countertop company to replace them. Then replace them again with Dekton counters. 3. I used a medium gray 12x24 tile in the bathroom, beautiful? Yes! But if you drop any kind of oil on it you would have to go thru a tedious process to get it out. Don't regret the blue. I am older than you and decorated longer and had more houses and you get tired of "neutrals" just as fast as color. Neutrals change just like colors change. How colors are used together changes too so often you can change a few things and don't have to change everything. Believe me "greige" will go out with blue and the woman with "greige" will be tired of it just like we will be tired of blue. Yes I choose blue too. I have BM Woodlawn blue. I love it and I love your cabinets too. They are stunning. I have zero regret except that when I was young I always played it safe and worried too much about "resale" value. When my neighbor's house sold in one day and it was decorated over the top I knew I had been wrong. Do what you love. Don't worry about getting tired of it because that is going to happen anyway. Plus it will be easy to repaint those doors and meanwhile they are so much prettier than greige. Your kitchen is so pretty and griege is nothing to that pale blue. I too regret my kitchen table choice. I have had few kitchen tables I love and were functional and pretty. I am looking for a new one right now. I have an oval /rectangle with rounded edges really and I want round with a single support. Nothing in your space looks like a compromise.
@BelindaTN4 жыл бұрын
I think you could distress your table and the benches to give it character. Children do a great job with that. lol Using antique chairs and linens can help. Maybe paint and chip the paint on legs of table where tables would normally get nicks and scratches. The same for the benches including the tops of the benches. Leave the quartz top as is. It might would look a lot like the vintage tables that had the enameled steel tops. Table clothes, place mats, or table runner would tone down the table top. The table and benches are already styled like a work table or simple farm table. An old looking rug under the table might make a difference. (myself, I don't have rugs or cloth chair seats. I find them too impractical where food and drinks will fall on it) My favorite thing in your kitchen is your stove. It is beautiful.

I remodeled my 1968 condo in 2011. I had never done a remodel before and had to rely just upon my contractor to help me. Unfortunately, i was working a full time job and honestly did not pay attention to some things the contractor was doing. As a result, the stove top hood that i had purchased was installed so low that I bonk my head almost every time. Also the refrigerator was placed so that you cannot access the icemaker because the door hits the wall and blocks you from getting into it. These are things that i include myself in the blame because i did point these problems out to the contractor at the time and did not follow up with him because he disappeared to do a job in Hawaii (a much more lucrative job). I did tell him i was taking some money out of his final invoice because of his mistakes and we got into it and it was not a positive ending. But anyway i would caution people to make sure you get really good references when taking on a contractor and do lots of homework and follow up.Question everything they do snd stay involved! Love your kitchen and i do think the table is very stunning because it flows with your cabinets! Best to you

Contractors are NOT DESIGNERS!! It would be best in the situation to hire a designer to oversee the aesthetic decisions the contractor makes. I often do this for my clients. I do it on hourly basis with a retainer against what I think the job will cost and then bill accordingly. There are many situations I catch that the contractor would not think of as a mistake, but the client is happy to have changed.

I am in the process of remodeling my kitchen and our biggest regret has been going into it 1/2 cocked. All I knew was I needed the sink, range, and fridge on the opposite end and that is all that has been done because I cannot make up my mind on much else. My sink and counter top were removed, along with all the cabinets, and the sink/counter top were just screwed to a 2x4 frame to hold it up until I decided on cabinets and counter tops to replace them. We won't even talk about how long it has been since it began. BUT after seeing the clean lines your cabinet and drawer fronts provide I am positive I have found what I would like. I am all for simple and clean looking and your kitchen achieves that in my opinion.

I’m in the planning stages still, waiting for estimates. The biggest decision that I’m worried about is putting in a counter-level breakfast bar with a 6 in deep cabinet underneath for spices, teas, etc. First, it’s taking away space for a small table if a future owner wanted it. I have a dining room, so that didn’t matter to me. Second, I had the options of deeper cabinets for more storage in my small kitchen, but it would take away from leg room for the stools, or eliminate the seating area altogether.

I think you did a beautiful job! Painting the blue would be an easy change (😉), and take your time and find that beautiful table someday...even if it takes a couple years. We all have things that bug us but part of the fun is putting our minds to tweaking it, getting it just right, and doing it in the most frugal way possible! Vert timely for me as I am currently in the process of remodeling my condo kitchen. We had a fridge waterline leak/flooding, and this resulted in a new kitchen from the studs up. My space is tiny and as is my insurance budget, so I am learning too. I want a simple white timeless kitchen (as timeless as possible.) White cupboards, white subway tile, stainless steel appliances. We live in a three-up condo community, so we don't have a stove vent that reaches the outside...so I am locked into an electric glass top range (which I actually hate.) I wanted simple, flat front panel cupboards but with the limited insurance budget, and weeks and weeks to order (some require 3 months or more to get) I am severely limited in my choices. I only hope I do not regret my choice of laminate flooring! (Again, insurance will only give you money for the remaining value of the quality of product that was in the space initially.) Sigh!

Personally, I find these "Regret" or "Boo-Boo" documentaries more worthwhile than the snobs out there trying to impress others with their fancy accomplishments. . .....comment on cabinet faces. I can agree the simple finish is something which a DIY could tackle, but it's getting the corners perfect which is a crucial part. Depending on how it's finished (epoxy, formica, edge banding, painted, etc) getting the edges right either makes or breaks the job. Thanks for your production; was nice to watch.
