Great bowl. Thanks for the tip on the polar graph paper. I've just made a bowl and completed the pyro and was struggling with visualising designs.

It's surprising really how much time these sort of things take. You imagine a few hours but in the end it take 3 or 4 times more than you expect. Carl Jacobson recently did a video on a cutter for this type of thing. Was nice to see how it's done manually without any special extras. Came out really nice. Well done!

Thanks Paul. Once I started it I just couldn't let it beat me. It eas definitely interesting and I might apply the technique in small quantities in future. Take care. Andrew

Nice to see a fellow Yorkshireman's pride at work. Very well done sir. I live in the US now, but I went to an art show last summer where there was a fellow selling these sort of bowls for $2000-3000 a pop. The 'artist' (he didn't want to be considered as a woodworker, understandably I suppose) told me that it can take him 2-3 weeks to complete a bowl/platter. He was using a lot of Native American patterns - you might want to investigate them as they are very much in the same style as what you produced. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge and congratulations on turning out such a fantastic piece of art. Cheers!

H Jeremy - I really appreciate the feedback. I would probably get £5 for mine in Yorkshire! Ha ha. I've since sold all my woodturning gear and I now make stationary steam engines. A bit more rewarding and something to play with when finished. All the best. Andrew

Hello Andrew. I just watched your video on the basket weave bowl. Superb job on getting it completed. Lots of work, but nice piece when all done. I have seen a few other KZbinrs produce a bowl with the same technique. One small tip to save you some time if you do another. When marking the layout lines on the lathe, using your pencil as a height gauge to mark the front and rear at the same time, slide across to the opposite side at least on the front and mark it also. Doing the back side on the opposite would be a pain. But marking the front on both sides of the lathe you only have to mark 1/2 as many lines. One half rotation while marking all across the plate will save you a lot of time for layout lines. Just food for thought.

Well Andrew you deserve a medel for your patience on that platter and a grand finish,and the beading tools not bad to boot all the best
@tiddlerfromtad7 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry. Although the piece is quite small I don't think I would have the appitite to tackle something similar again. I just couldn't believe it when the finish went cloudy. After many hours of working on the base and then a 10 second spray of lacquer nearly ruined it. I love the result, but happy to get back to some proper turning. ☺ Take care. Andrew

Hi Andrew, As a new subscriber to your channel, and as a fellow Yorkshireman, I am completely awe inspired by some of the work which you have produced and which are an inspiration to me as a woodturner returning to the craft after some 50 years. Amazing! Keep on Keepin' on! Best wishes P

Wow P - I am gob smacked! However, I do think this is the best piece I have created so far but I really need to up my game after spending a couple of weeks turning pens for Christmas presents. I am really happy that it's helped inspire you and I hope you have great fun turning again. The great thing with this hobby is that it can also create a mental challenge trying to figure out the best process to follow in creating something. Unfortunately, there always seems to be another gadget that needs to be purchased - but that's also fun! Thanks for subscribing. Cheers Andrew

I had that 18v Bosch drill. After our DIY whole home remodel, it gave out in a puff of fowl smelling smoke and a shower of sparks. I used it a LOT in the 1.5 years I had it though, so despite the $100 US price tag, I feel I got my money's worth.
