Thank you very much! Very helpful video. In 2018, following arthroscopic surgery to address a huge bone spur on my severely arthritic left ankle with very little cartilage remaining, I faced the decision of whether to go with fusion or Total Ankle Replacement. My outstanding surgeon convinced me to go with a TAR, with the understanding that I could later opt for a fusion, which has always been on the long-term menu since 1968. I am now six years out from the 2018 TAR with a Salto Talaris, but always feel better about my backup, a good fusion (and curved-soled Skechers), as an option, if the implant goes sideways with osteolysis or other problems. Thank you very much, and God bless you! You bring me much welcome encouragement to not worry, and reminders to keep it all in God's hands.

February 9, 2024.....Thanks for posting this video. I had the calcaneus fused to the inner and outer bones of the ankle ten days ago and go back for my first post op visit on Monday the 12th. If everything looks good, I'll get a hard cast and will have to return every two weeks for a new one and eventually a boot like yours. My procedure DID NOT include the tibia and talus as yours did, and I'm thankful for that so my range of motion in the flex won't be as restricted as yours, but the side to side motion will be affected. I'm 72 and in good health. Your video has inspired me and I MAY TRY doing a video of my own. I hope you're healing process is on track. North Carolina, USA

For the past 15 years, I've relied on a combination of two Naproxen pills (painkillers) and one Lansoprazole (to protect my stomach from the Naproxen's effects) to manage the pain. It made a significant difference in my life, but relying on medication for so long takes its toll. That's why I decided to explore other options and consulted a surgeon about the possibility of joint fusion. To my surprise, the surgeon suggested a steroid injection instead, considering me a bit too young for major fusion surgery. I was sceptical, but I agreed. To my amazement, the injection has been incredibly successful. I haven't needed any painkillers, and I'm completely pain-free. In fact, I recently participated in an 18-mile charity walk without any discomfort. It's been a game-changer for me. However, there is going to come a time when I will be in the same boat as you and will need to have the joint fused. I wish you a speedy recovery, sir. And pain-free walking.
@tidybrickslandscaping Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay and firstly I’m glad the steroid injection worked for you great technology as for me I was old enough for the fusion and I’m 5 months in now and it’s still not perfect by far apparently depending on you perfection it can take 12 months or so which I can see this more likely for my age bracket and landscaping business, I saw the surgeon last about 2 months ago and he said he’s happy with the op and I can if wanted have the screws taken out at some point which I might actually do depends on my next meetings questions on it. Hope it all goes well for you in the upcoming future 👍 I did Everest base camp a few years ago for charity too won’t be doing that again so glad it did it post op 👍🏴

Hi and hopefully you have a successful operation as for the shoes I had them recommend from my surgeon and bought them from sketchers 👍🏴 not the best looking but so much easier to walk with

I feel for you having had an inter medullary nail op when i smashed my lower leg up. Remember that pain is part of healing and the bone will heal faster if you aply weight. I did private physio and basically did my own thing post op, you can do more than they will advise you. I will keep my im nail and screws until the day i drop, no way i want an op again.

I had an ankle fusion 3 years ago. But for many many years I used rocker bottom shoes and they helped me walk with less pain. The best shoes you could get are the MBT level 3. I mean level 3 is the best you can buy them online at the MBT website. The original MBT company went out of business so the shoes aren't as good. But believe me if you get the level 3 Rock or bottom you will have no pain and no limp. So much better than Skechers. Hope you try it. These are the only shoes I buy. Expensive but it's a better life❤

Not heard of that make before so just had a look and they look very curved indeed 👍 my last shoes I bought were called hoka they’re also very curved too more so than the sketchers I originally bought so thanks for the input every little helps. How’s the movement on your foot btw is it just your toes you can move like mine. Hopefully having the screws taken out soon 👍🏴

@@tidybrickslandscaping I hit a car accident in 1985 where I shattered my ankle and I had two screws and he said if they ever bother you can have them taken out with another surgery. I never did because it didn't really bother me. I waited a good 20 years to have my fusion out of fear. I believe I have six or eight screws now and a pole going up to my knee almost. The only thing I can move is my toes but that was the same thing when I hit the initial surgery. Just my toes. Pain is almost gone except for my knee which I just had replaced 2 months ago 😒 anyway, Hoka are better than Skechers, but MBT level 3 are the absolute best.
@lisah578427 күн бұрын
I sent it too soon accidentally 😆 I had a MBT store by my house until they went out of business but you can buy them through their website or Amazon but level 3 is the best. As I said I wear a pair pair of house shoes that are level two which are awesome. Never go barefoot. I can tell a huge difference anytime. I'm on my feet walking. I have mbts on rocker bottoms. Also if you have bad knees or a bad back, the rocker bottoms also help. Nypical barefoot. Sorry I'm rambling. I don't want to forget anything. I forgot the name of the level 2 shoes I wear around the house. I'll look it up and get back to you. I wish you the best 💜😀
@lisah578427 күн бұрын
Okay, I looked it up on their website. It's Modena. That's my level 2 house shoe. They have it in men's and women's.Kisumu are the sandals I've worn since 2009. You can get them in brown and black. They're level three. They have literally saved my life. I have very wide feet and you can change the straps to fit you. I've even worn them in the winter with socks because I couldn't find shoes that worked for me or boots. On their website you can tap on the MBT index which shows you the level of rock and what it does for you. Sorry for rambling but I know this will help you 💜

Feel for you , I tore my achilles nothing compared with what you have got, but a similar recovery although a soft 'boot' with an angle to stop the achilles stressing and they gradually changed the angle. I did find when I was out of the boot, (which I had been using with crutches) I did seem to have pain in different parts of my body which I guess was to do with walking a bit one sided with the boot and crutches, that took quite a while to go but I just kept doing stretching exercises and that seemed to help, all the best

I had several sessions of physio at the hospital they show you what too do then give you a sheet with the exercises on it, to be honest I found that walking every day and finding a set of steps to climb up and down helped the most, it takes a while, just keep at it and you'll get there I'm sure. All the best@@tidybrickslandscaping

Wishing you the best for a great recovery from your op Hoka is another good brand of trainers that was recommended to me after my ankle fusion from foot and ankle surgeon also my podiatrist ! I had my ankle fusion , foot reconstruction Sept 18 , 2019 after 10 years of agony I had to wear a brace for support and steroid injections every 4 months / After op I had a very heavy large plaster for 2 weeks my leg had to stay elevated only moving for bathroom / then air boot for 6 weeks no contact with floor for 4 weeks then last 2 weeks only walking on the ball of my foot / I had a scooter to get around the house that was a god send ! It took 6 months before I could go back to work as I’m a hairdresser on my feet for long hours it wasn’t easy but I got there the surgery was worth it I couldn’t go on the way it was ! I’m doing great now ! I highly recommend following Drs orders to the word it worked for me / Things for me could be slightly different as I’m in Australia !

I didn't have phiseo bit I do lot of swimming Aqua fit and it helps my Ankle. The stiffness will never go away ..

We’re in the same boat looks like and just glad the pain has gone away for now as for the walking stick recently I’ve started using the one stick for smaller journeys but around the house I’m ok without. I haven’t done any swimming yet maybe I should as that’s a form of physio as well I guess. And certainly don’t have the ankle movement I had before the operation but I’m finding that manageable I’m about 5 months in now and I think it’s going to be a few more months yet before I notice any big differences Seeing the surgeon again in a few weeks to talk about having the screws removed Take care Scott 👍🏴

Had it done september 20th 2023. 12 weeks in cast. Bone healing after this was good. Can't walk like he did at 13 weeks without crutches, im at 15 weeks now still need support but in normal shoes. I'm only 31. Seems to be a long recovery for us all. You might need help from shoes for "rolling" the foot like he discussed. Also to avoid unneeded stress on other joints over the long term.

@@tidybrickslandscaping After 6 weeks its new cast with shoe that can be attached to it. Can walk on it same as the boot its just not removable. Most likely an insurance thing why boots arent used here, operation was done in the Netherlands. At 12 weeks nurse removed the cast and forced me into wheelchair, warned 5 times not to step on it until after xray and docters approval. Never seen any of those air boots in person either in europe. I had open surgery, bone taken from heel bone, metal plate and 9 screws so normal cast and pressure it provides helped lot against swelling
