LOVE this!! Hey Mr Tie Dye, can I make a demo request? Could you do a concept video about "bleach designing" a shirt and then after that process, doing Tie Dye to add cool colors back in? Not sure if you already have the combo of the 2 in one shirt on a video. Thanks for all the help!! :)
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 4 жыл бұрын
yeah I am headed that direction at some point... I have made a coupe discharge videos using bleach, but they did not get light enough to add color back in... but I have been playing with another product which removes more of the color, so once I get the whole process figured out, I will make a video... also have one other product to try so stay tuned :-)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! I have a question, I have tied quite a few youth long sleeve t's up and don't have time to dye them now. I fear the colors will bleed or travel more if the shirts dry out? Should I try to re wet them with a sprayer of soda ash / water before I dye? Thank you again for your creativity :)
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 4 жыл бұрын
dyeing them dry is fine... I do that when I have tees folded in a mandala design or starflower where there are many layers, the tees being dry helps the dye move through the fabric to give great saturation .... BUT, sometimes with a dry tee the dye will roll off instead of soak in initially, so in that case, I will lightly spray them with soda ash water and then the dye soaks in ... hope this helps and you are welcome :-)

Hello, thank you very much for the videos. I wanted to ask you, what is that thick water thing? glyserin? I'm from Latin America, and I don't know exactly how to look for it. I would appreciate an answer from you.
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 3 жыл бұрын
you are welcome... and what I use in my videos to thicken my dyes is Sodium Alginate (basically it is dried, ground up seaweed) ... here are a couple videos to show how I make the thick water with a product from dharma : kzbin.info/www/bejne/n57EhYuNmbN9itE and here is a video for thickening the water with a product from Amazon : kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqSQaJaFq7Jpqrc but most recently I have been using Super Clear... it is already thickened and I just thin it out to how I want it and then add dye, here is the product, but I have not made a video for it yet : www.dharmatrading.com/chemicals/superclear.html I have not tried glycerin, but if you cannot find these other thing, you might just try it with a little bit of dye and see how it works

Do you think it matters if your left or right handed how it comes out? It’s like crochet, I get patterns wrong because I’m supposedly “backwards”’being left handed.
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 4 жыл бұрын
I do not think it had a bearing on how the design comes out but you may have to flip something around a different way to fold it ..... I cannot twist a spiral in a counter clockwise fashion at all... so if I need to reverse the direction of the spiral, I turn the tee shirt over .... so people may need to flip something to work it for the left hand where I use my right... I hope that made sense :)

if you have the option, it is best to apply the vinyl after the tee is dyed .... but other wise, I have dye many tees with vinyl already on them and did not do anything special

I'm finding that when I do a shirt that leaves part of it white, that by the time it's rinsed and washed the white part is pink, gray, purple, or whatever color ran into it. I rinse and rinse in the sink before putting it in the wash but there is still a bunch of bleeding. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks!
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 3 жыл бұрын
I use Palin or thickened water on the white spaces, this helps to hold the space so other dyes (liquids) do not spread into that area Also, part of that could be having too much dye in the rest of the tee, so if it feels really wet, then I will use some clean dry rags/towels to soak up some of the excess dyes so the do not spread during the batch time ... I hope this helps .... it takes a while to figure out all of the ins and out of tie-dye... just hang in there
@stevent6727
@stevent6727 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrTieDye Thank you! What I have happening is it comes out fine, but after I'm done rinsing and washing, then the white parts have taken on the other colors. Especially reds or black. I'm also still using Rit so that might be the issue that it doesn't hold as well?

Can you do a broken heart 💔 design?
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 2 жыл бұрын
if I was going to do a broken heart design, I would fold the tee in half like I do with just the front pulled forward, and draw my half heart on, then I would draw a crooked line down the middle of the heart along where the tee is folded in half, with a different color marker so I can keep the outline and the broken line separate, then I would pleat and tie off the heart outline, then I would fold up the broken heart line and tie it off.... then I would dye the heart in pink, red or whatever color... then dye the broken line in black or a contrasting color to the heart ... I hope this helps you create the tee that you want 😉✌🏻
