This is excellent work. I don't think I had ever seen you do a mandala fold with a spiral before so I was very interested in how it would turn out. It did not disappoint. The colour choice is very interesting and I absolutely love the blooming flower at the side. Great work 💜

Gonna have to watch the fold a couple more times, but this looks like another fold I plan to use often. As for the hot water method, I love to use it for hoodies, but some dyes are just easier to use; lemon yellow is not an easy dye to spoon evenly.

It is pretty hard but try mixing it with soda ash ☺️ it will make it a little more grainy like sugar 💙

@@RiahsTieDye I mixed some dye and soda ash without water at a ratio of 2:1 soda ash to dye and did two hot water irrigation hoodies last night. The first was irrigated wit hot tap water and it looks cool but the colors faded in the wash; on the second one I heated up some premixed soda ash water for the irrigation and the colors stayed vibrant. Thanks for the tip on adding soda ash to the dye; I used some bottles with a bit of the tip cut off to spread the powder dye/soda-ash mix. The second hoodie was a phoenix tie, so the dye had to go through 4 layers of 9oz fabric and the color saturation is even throughout with only a little dye mix added when I flipped it to check the bottom for white spots.

So why does Shitake split like that? Is it meant to or is there something about not covering in soda ash that encourages it? Would other colors split in the same way? This is absolutely stunning!

Shiitake is made with a ton of other colors so when you do a powder method like ice dye or HWI the colors that are used to make the dye make an appearance. If you just do liquid dye there will be little to no splits because the powder is already dissolved in water. Not all colors do this but some do. In this video I chose 3 colors I knew would split ☺️💜

Pinks don’t really split and I think the only purple that really splits is power berry. I haven’t seen two many splits in blues either but parakeet has a greenish yellow split in it.

Please forgive me if this question has already been asked, but what's the main difference between the hot water dye technique, and doing an ice dye other than the temperature of the water? Is it just faster, or do you get more vibrant colors/they're dispersed in a different way/effect? I just recently stumbled upon your channel and I love all your videos! Also the brightness really depends on the amount of soda ash you use. I always soak my shirts in soda ash before I tie them up and with both methods I mix dye with soda ash to place on the shirt before the hot water or ice
