That’s is so crazy how the shirt wicks the dye UP and over the container. The hoodie turned out so cool!

This is a very cool technique. The geode flowing into a gravity looks awesome. What would it look like if you just used kite string at the diagonal tie instead of sinew? Would the flow of color look more connected without the 'zipper' looking effect?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, the dye would just flow down the hoodie without the dividing line.

Geodes are beautiful. Can you see all the different colors you used? Would there have been a way to make the gravity part a contrasting color? Thank you for another wonderful video.
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I can see hints of all of the colors in the geodes. The gravity dye part is a combination of all the colors mixed together. I don't know of a way to make the gravity part a different color since it is the muck from the geodes. I guess you could dye it in 2 parts to make that happen. You could dye the geodes and then come back and dye the bottom portion.

This came out really nice! I'm surprised the way the dye wicks. I want to try this. It might be too cool at this time of year though since at night it gets down into the 40's and my backyard doesn't get much sun this time of year. I normally bring my dyes inside to batch under heating pads on top of see heaters. Where are you that you are still in shorts this time of year?!?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It is a little cool here too to do this design outside. I made this shirt about a month ago and so it was still pretty warm. I live in the south and I was able to wear shorts until a few weeks ago. I'm already tired of the cold weather though and ready for summer again. 😀

I love this! Question, I have trouble with the dye wicking all the way through. Am I not getting enough ice initially? Are your hoodies completely dry before dyeing? Thanks for your help!
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Most of the time my hoodies are close to dry if not completely dry. It takes quite a bit of ice, and time for the dye wick all the way through. How long are you leaving them to allow the dye to wick down the shirt? I've noticed that some colors move faster than others too. Blue does really well, but green moves pretty slow. I had one batch with too much water and they didn't wick well either though. I put the ice on and then a few hours later the sprinkler system went off and added more water to the container. That watered down the muck too much. I literally had a layer of water that was floating around on top of the muck. It didn't help either that it got the gravity part wet and possibly even rinsed the soda ash out of that area.

Can you share where you got your spoon from? I have watched and looked for a link in your videos for a while now and cannot seem to find it. It's perfect for dye placement more often than not....
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
It is a stainless steel lab spoon. amzn.to/2PWq7LK I really love them for dye application. The dye doesn't seem to stick to the stainless steel the way it does plastic.
