It's getting close to Halloween - so let's make a Spooky Spiral. In this tutorial video I show and explain how to ice dye a lime green, purple, gray and black spiral. This shirt is #9 of my Spooky Spiral series that I started last year.

All of you americans are free advertisements for dawn lol..love your shirt..i have tried ice dye without any luck..maybe next summer i'll try again..love love love lime pop..thanks for sharing

Thank you - I love Lime Pop too! I know that some people do, but I don't wash the shirt in Dawn. I use textile detergent when I wash the shirt in the washing machine. However, it is good to use for soaking shirts. Since it is pH neutral it helps lower the pH (in case any of the soda ash is still hanging around) and help keep any of the dye that is rinsed out of the shirt from redepositing on the shirt. I've found that soaking in really hot water is an excellent way to get out a lot of the excess dye. What went wrong when you ice dyed? I really love ice dyeing - the shirts turn out so unique. You definitely should give it another try.

Love the shirt! It's perfect for Halloween. So smart to separate the colors with the black and grey. I am a fan of both the true violet and true purple. Grateful Dyes has a wonderful collection of purples (and blues).

Do you find a real difference between lime pop/lime squeeze/granny apple? On my screen they seem almost identical. I have granny apple and wonder if either of the limes would be significantly lighter. I can only get one right now.

I pulled out my liquid color swatches to compare the 3 colors and I guess I never made a swatch for the Lime Squeeze. On the shirt I made it is the top or smaller lime swirl. There isn't a large difference in ice dyeing between Lime Pop and Lime Squeeze. Lime Squeeze has a bit more green than Lime Pop - you can kind of see it in the color splits that came out of the Lime Squeeze. Granny Apple falls in between the two of them on Dharma's color list, but when I compare the Lime Pop and Granny Apple to each other - the Granny Apple is quite a bit more green. If you want a color that is significantly lighter I would go with Lime Pop. I think Lime Squeeze would be closer in color to Granny Apple.
