Tie Dye Designs : Zombie Color Inclined Twist Ice Dye [Lots of unexpected color splits]

This tutorial video is for an inclined twist ice dyed shirt. I wanted to see the color splits from one of Dharma's Zombie dye colors and this technique is a great one to showcase color splits. The color didn't disappoint, and the color splits on this shirt are beautiful!

I was a little surprised by some of the splits from this one too. I think it is really hard to see all the cool color splits from a swatch. For years I just had the liquid swatch of this one, and so I virtually ignored this color. I'm so happy that I used it for ice dyeing. 😀

This is a fantastic Moose! showing. ❤ I honestly think it's a tie between side twists and TDS when it comes to showing off splits. The twist, and incline, really shows off the flow, but the watercolor effects with a DOI TDS are spectacular too.

I had to over-dye this color. I used purples and blues. The blues blended with the pale yellow and made some awesome aqua shades. Your shirt turned out spectacular!

Oh no! I've heard really mixed feelings about this color. I love it on this shirt because of the variety of color splits. I did get some pale yellow, but I got a lot more of a chartreuse color. It sounds like your over-dye turned out looking cool though.

It’s very interesting!! After watching all your videos and learning all the different techniques I’m finally gonna give the geode try on some hoodies to make some gifts for Xmas. I bought a few dyespin colors. I’ve done a few shirts in the past using the kits from like Walmart but now it’s the real deal!! Lol

Awesome! Since hoodies are a bit thicker than a t-shirt, you'll need to really tighten down the sinew. They also take a lot of ice because they are so thick. I love Dyespin dyes, and I think you will immediately notice the difference in their dyes compared to the tie dye kit dyes. Let me know how it goes.

Magic! I saw how easy it was to do but the result is incredible. I think this is my favorite of all of the videos of yours I have seen. Does it make a difference in color intensity where you place the additional soda ash? Under the ice or over the dye? Can you dye anything in the muck or would it just look mucky? Thanks Angie.

Thank you so much, I'm really glad you like it! It doesn't matter where you add the additional soda ash. I normally add it over the top of the dye. You can muck dye most things. They will be a bit darker than if they were rack dyed though.

This is so cool, the 'splash' of color on the side looks like a healing fungus growing on a zombie. Do normal colors (like red or green) give color splits like this? I mean if you took a dye called 'royal blue' and did a dye technique like this, would you get just a blue shirt with various dark and light areas or would you get some other hidden colors?

Thank you! I don't think most colors would give this many splits. I do think that this incline twist design would highlight the ones that they have though. I'll have to give it a try with a color that splits, but isn't know to have a lot of color splits and see how it turns out.

Angie, my friend wants a sunburst with red, orange and yellow. How would you place the colors?

I would do a fan fold design instead of a twist. I have quite a few out on my channel. One of the first tutorial videos I posted I did a color combination like your friend wants. You could make the sunburst on only one side though if you'd like. On sunburst designs, I like to put the yellow at the top of the incline so that it doesn't get overtaken by the rest of the colors.
