Nice! I feel the same with orange. I only use it with yellows, pinks, and reds. I have orange dyes that are over 8 years old! I like this technique too. I don't know how I missed this post from you last year. I'm glad someone posted a link in the dye group on FB.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it! I've started embracing orange a little more over the past few years. I've heard we gravitate toward and away from colors that don't look good on us. I'm not sure if that is true, but I realize that I tend to do that. I tend to use it with yellows, pinks and reds too. It goes really well with those colors and doesn't form any undesirable colors when mixed with them. Orange is also a very overwhelming color sometimes. When I do rainbow shirts, I've noticed that the orange tries to take over the shirt. I think it goes really well with the gray on this shirt though. 😀

@FunEndeavors I would have never thought to pair with gray. It works well. I pair pink with gray often, it's one of my favorite combinations. I don't know why I didn't think of orange with gray. This gives me hope to use orange dye that pretty much just sits in my inventory. Thank you!

ORANGE ROCKS!!! I love this result!! I am partial to orange, but this is very cool. I do paint pouring myself, and those flower-like gathers look just like the result we get when you touch a balloon down onto your wet paint! lol

An oriental styled flower watercolor painting. That was the immediate thought when I saw the shirt. Like a piece of art. How different would it look if you had put the areas you gathered up at the top instead of the bottom. So many variables to test and experiment with in so many varieties of ties and folds. Your channel explores experimentation and trying different things, which is so awesome. Thank you.

I love the smallish speckly areas that surround the larger floral shapes, and also how you turned it upside down before you applied the dye. Seems like most times with gravity dyework a smaller area of tied fabric leads downwards into a larger area of folds and this gives a soft and more water colored effect. By doing the opposite, the dye looks to have gotten even more intense as the melted ice and dye was drawn down to the tip of the peaks then quickly dropping out of the fabric. That's a great ice dye container because it's cheap, clear, and easily handled without taking up much room and can be viewed from any angle and hold a ton of ice . Please do more variations on gravity ice dyes- gorgeous! Keith M 🎹

I attempted to do this technique, but mine didn't turn out as nice as yours. It could have been color selection or the top could have been packed tight. I used a Dharma poncho & Dharma colors - tangerine, hot hibiscus, coral pink & watermelon. It came out geode & quite a bit of white. It pulled a lot of red, some yellow & soft pink. I'll attempt again & hope my come out more like yours. You have great tutorials.

I think the colors on this one are what make it look so cool. I recently made another one, but I used a darker pink (Strawberry from Custom Colours) on the shirt and I thought it really overpowered the soft look of the shirt. I tend to be a little heavy handed with adding dye though, and I think this is a design where less is more.

I like the design and I love the style, but I think it would look better if you used the gunmetal twice rather then the mushroom? But I like the way the flamingo and watermelon look on this, they are not colors I would normally like but with the gunmetal I think they look really good... The watermelon might look good with dharma's sapphire blue even with the possibility of browns (I think it might be more like purple but I don't know) sapphire is suppose to split well.

I love your videos and this is one of my favourite designs! I have some questions and I'm hoping you can help. I don't really like the bright vivid dyes, I like lighter and softer tones, so I am wondering how can this be achieved with all dyes? What happens if you don't use soda ash? Will the fabric hold less colour and would it be permanent or would it just not hold at all and fade over time? Thanks for your videos!

Thank you! Soda ash is necessary to raise the pH and allow the dye to properly bond with the fabric. Without soda ash, most if not all of the dye would rinse out of the shirt. To get softer lighter tones, you can dilute down your liquid dyes. Have you tried that? I think you have more control over the intensity of the dye when you use liquid.
