Tie-dye pattern : Psychadelic Mushroom

Today I am demonstrating how to tie-dye a Psychadelic Mushroom pattern tapestry using the ice tie-dye method. This is a step by step tie-dye tutorial video where we cover the entire process starting with the folding and drawing of our mushroom pattern on the tapestry. Then we tie up the tapestry using sinew and apply our procion dye to the tapestry. After that we add ice right on top of the procion dye and let it sit for 24 hours. Finally we give it a good rinse and jump right on into the reveal of our new psychadelic mushroom pattern tapestry. I hope you enjoy and as always...Happy Tie Dyeing!
***Before working with procion dyes or any kind of fiber reactive dye please make sure to pay special attention to all labels including directions, warnings, and first aid instructions***. I highly recommend gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask per these instructions.

Hi! Thank you!!! Soda ash is definitely necessary! If you use fiber reactive dyes. They won’t work without soda ash. Soda ash is a chemical that helps bond the dyes to the fabric, so, without it, you will pretty much wash all of the dye out of whatever you tried to dye or you’ll end up with a very faint pastel staining. I hope this helps! ☺️

Thank you so much! So to answer your question it definitely does. When you ice dye it gives almost a marbled effect to the material with the way the ice melts and sends the colors different ways and in different quantities. It’s literally impossible to create with liquid dye and definitely a favorite of mine. Soon I’m going to do a ice vs liquid vs hwi video to show the difference in results. I hope this helps😊🍄🌈💙

What is the soda ash for? I love the powder. I feel like the colors are more bold with the powder. This is pretty cool.

Soda ash is necessary for any fiber reactive dyes to work on any fabric. Essentially, if you don’t use soda ash and you use fiber reactive dyes, the colors will mostly wash out of whatever you dyed. So definitely necessary ☺️❤️

I’m not sure if I read that right but you need to make sure that you are hand rinsing and squeezing your item in the sink until the water runs clear before you wash it. If you wash while there is still dye in there your probably gonna keep having an issue.

Question why did the shape of your object change when you put it in the pan for ice bath? I can’t follow where the mushroom is, because somewhere in the time lapse you added more rubber bands, without saying you did. Hi and thank you for your question. The shape actually didn’t change or was just rotated when the aluminum foil was put around it. I’m not sure if it helps but you actually can slow down the video in KZbin if you need to. It definitely makes it easier to follow along. Hope this helps😊🌈🍄
