It sure doesn’t take a whole lot of dye. A fair amount on the top, a light touch up and very little on the back. The ice did it’s job well. That’s the fun of ice dyeing, it’s easy to add more and play around with it as the process goes along. 🥰❤️🌈

Ice dyes create variations in the dye. Color splits. I like the marbling and watercolor effect achieved with ice dyeing versus the hard lines of liquid dyeing. It’s just a personal preference. ❤️🌈

These colors always speak to me! I love them. Your periwinkle is on the bluer side compared to mine. Mine leans more towards lavender. It’s still beautiful. I think due to covid it was one that got reformulated. 💜💜💜

I liked this myself; I'm very curious-- how tight do you pull the zip-ties? Mine aren't reusable, but a few months back I ran across a HUGE bundle at a thriftshop and picked them up for a song so I may give this a try-- using zipties sounds like it might have real possibilites.

I’m glad you like it, Ysabet! I pulled the zip ties as tight as I could by hand tightening. I suppose I could have got some pliers out, but it wasn’t that serious. You could use zip ties in lieu of rubber bands and then just snip them during the rinse out. Give it a try and see what happens… 😁❤️🌈

I can see the zip ties being good for bulky fabric like this that’s so hard to tie tight with sinew! I tried doing a jacket and it was murder on my hands, even with a puller.

For all you folks out there all standard zip ties can be rendered reusable by not snipping off the excess and using a standard [ flat blade ] screw driver that will fit up, into the body [ lock head ] and you can push up the wee plastic tongue or lever to loosen or completely uncinch it. Just in case you have zip ties on hand.

REALLY?!?!?! I had no idea. Thanks for the tip. I’ll tell you, for me personally… with wet gloves on and wet fabric I’ll take the kind I have versus going at it with a screwdriver. With my zany luck I’d end up driving the screwdriver right through my project or pulling out the greasiest, nastiest one out of the toolbox. 🤪😜😂❤️🌈

I think it is funny you used 3 different sizes of ice for each time. I think if you used the smaller cubes first it might work better due to the larger volume of water melting. I've had more success that way with ice dying.

You know how it goes, Scott, I had to use what was available at the moment. I don’t like buying ice if I don’t have to. My nugget ice is my go to ice, but I was on a serious ice dye kick that day and my little machine wasn’t filling fast enough! 🥶❤️🌈
