At 67, I'm new to the game but quite addicted. This is one I might be able to handle. I think it's lovely and you nailed the colors. I just purchased 2 orders from Dharma but looks like I might have to check out other suppliers to get a fuller palette. Thank you for this video. Mark in Tacoma.

Welcome to tie dyeing, I think you're going to love it! Dharma has a great variety of colors. I used their dyes solely for years. In about the last 4 years I've started to purchase from some of the other dye suppliers. Dharma Trading Company (in California), Dyespin (in Missouri), Pro Chemical and Dye (in Massachusetts), Custom Colours (in North Carolina), Grateful Dyes (in Colorado), Dalula Co. (in California) and Happy Cat Tie Dye (in New Jersey) are some of the other companies that I buy from. They all sell fiber reactive dyes. I hope you have fun with your tie dye adventure! 😀

Those aren't fan folds they are accordian folds. A fan fold is literally what it sounds like. Drawing a half circle on the side n accordian folding that to create a fan like design cause it fans out. It looks like a hand held fan when tied up

The soda ash solution that the shirt was soaked in before I began tying really irritates my skin. Since I am sensitive to the soda ash, I always wear gloves when working with soda ash or a shirt that has been soaked in a soda ash solution. Soda ash doesn't affect some people the same way and I see a lot of tie dyers who tie their shirts without gloves. I used to be able to do that 10 years ago, but it bothers my hands too much now. It does make it easier to fold the shirt without gloves though.

Angie do you prefer to do reverse tie dye or add black to make the deep sharp black lines? Since I (student) am learning, I’m curious as to your (master) preference. This is really beautiful!
@FunEndeavors
@FunEndeavors 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you - I'm glad you like it! I don't really have a preference. Both techniques end up with very different looks. Reverse dyed shirts are sometimes more difficult to end up with black lines exactly where you want them. Sometimes too much black is removed or you have a few extra black areas that you didn't plan on. If you want black in specific areas, it is much easier to add the black dye to the shirt. I also think that since the dye removal process usually leaves the shirt a taupe color, the overall shirt has a little darker look to it once dye is added in. The colors are still bright, but they are going over a taupe colored shirt instead of a white shirt so they are just a little less bright.

@@FunEndeavors I have a question since ik you are a tye dye Queen 👑 We tye dyed and then the next day we removed our rubber bands and we didn't rinse them. My gf said the instruction on the kit box said that if you tye dye dry then after it drys again that you don't have to rinse (next day) put in your dryer then do the vinegar and water process to set in the colors. I want to know if I can do that and if not then what do I need to do?? I appreciate you and I appreciate any help with this situation. PLEASE TY & 💯💚 TYE DYE 💚💯❤️
@FunEndeavors
@FunEndeavors 2 жыл бұрын
@@katherinehaarmann4651 I'm not sure what kind of a kit was used. I've never seen one with instructions like that. Most of the kit dyes (like Tulip) are the same type of dye that I use, but they are less concentrated and the soda ash is included in the bottle. If that is the case, I would rinse the shirt in cold water and then warm it to hot until the water runs clear. I would then wash it in the washing machine. If it is a Rit dye kit or something like that, I'm not quite sure what to do. I haven't ever used Rit - only the color remover. Was the shirt soaked in soda ash? I think the logic behind the vinegar is to neutralize the soda ash. However if you are using Procion fiber reactive dye, the cold water rinse will get the soda ash out of the shirt and the dye will already be bonded so the vinegar isn't really necessary. A vinegar soak won't hurt anything though. I'm sorry that I can't be more help. There are a lot of different dye types on the market, and without knowing what kind of dye the kit has it is tough to give you specific instructions. Without more information, I would probably soak it in vinegar and then rinse it really well and wash it. Let me know how it goes.

Hi. Love this So I want to switch the colours. I want to use blues and and amethyst/purple. I want the purple to be on the inside of those zigzag so where would I put the purples?
@FunEndeavors
@FunEndeavors 3 жыл бұрын
That will look really cool - I really like blue and purple together! On this shirt I put the blues and teals on the front and then covered the entire back with a darker blue (the darker blue on the back is what makes the lines inside the zig zag). If you would like the purple on the inside lines - you would add it all over the back of the shirt. Don't oversaturate with the purple though. I usually add the colors on the front until they start coming through to the back, then I add enough of the dark color to the back side to cover it and cover any of the white showing, but I don't add too much extra. You don't want the purple to overtake the colors that you put on the front. Then I would process the shirt with the purple side down.

Your information is gold, thank you for your teachings! I was curious, when should I use urea? I saw it on your list but haven’t seen you use it or instruct on it. Appreciate you and your knowledge, love your art. 🧡
@FunEndeavors
@FunEndeavors 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I use Urea in liquid dye. I live where it gets really hot, and Urea is used to help keep an item from drying out while it is processing as well as helping to dissolve the dye. I will usually add 1 Tablespoon of Urea into 1 cup of water or dye when I am mixing my dyes. Here's a link to how I mix my dyes if you'd like to see me mix them. Since the video, I have purchased a milk frother from Amazon and that is what I usually use for smaller (1 cup or less) amounts of dye that I mix instead of having to use the immersion blender or just adding the dye to the bottle. I am not a coffee drinker and so I never thought to use an immersion blender until a viewer suggested it. I'm so glad that he did, because it works great! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaCwh3dqntF1oac
