The Gildan soft styles will be the death of me. I will occasionally have the same issue with the dye wicking off, (especially around the collar), and I absolutely despise folding them because they are so thin, the pleats become so delicate. But they are pretty affordable, and are so soft that I can't stay away! Love the result of this one!

I really love the soft style shirts. These are thicker than the George brand from Walmart and I really like those! Certain patterns are probably easier than others to fold up. Overall I’m pretty happy with this. Thanks for your feedback. ❤️🌈

This is beautiful! As much as I like the softness of that particular Gildan shirt, I do find them to be a challenge to fold - they feel similar to pima cotton bed sheets that I've folded and dyed - sometimes the softness is not worth the effort. I love a rainbow pattern surrounded by black - it's very sophisticated!

Thank you. I suppose certain patterns are better for certain shirts. Spirals would be easy with this soft style. I haven’t tried sheets yet. I’ve yet to settle on which brand to go with. I love rainbows with a black back. ❤️🌈

The cotton in that shirt was odd why it absorbed like that. I like doing that same pattern with the same colors. Sometimes I will apply diluted black first then full strength black on top. It gives more depth if done right. I loved your shirt, Steph. I love how you show the struggles of how things can go wrong. Hope you're having a great day:)

It turned out a tad haphazard, but I’m happy. I was rushing it. Like I said, 24-48 hours would have been better. In this situation I was really happy to take off the gloves and clean up the crime scene. 😉❤️🌈

I know your black drives you nuts. After blending have you thought about running it though a tea strainer? It would catch the clumps the blender missed, but would let more dye through than a coffee filter would. I would like to see the result of the normal batch of the same design so we can see the difference in how the dye takes. It did turn out nice for a fast process.

It drives me nearly INSANE! Others have suggested straining it, but I haven’t tried yet. I keep hoping every time I mix it, it will be different. What is the definition of insanity?? 😂 I will make this shirt again, the normal way. It’s a popular pattern with the guys in my world and I can tell you with a regular Gildan and normal batch times it’s a little more defined. I’m happy though… it was one of the first shirts in almost two weeks so it filled my rainbow void. ☺️❤️🌈

Nice shirt. You know what’s funny is that I have the clogging issue with raven black as well. Also if I leave the raven black dye in the refrigerator for a couple of days the dye becomes very thick. Must be something in the molecules of the dye. I use two tablespoons of raven for 16 oz of water & it comes out pretty black. I love raven the color does look really good.

I like it! I'll try to do one like this for sure, maybe with purple instead of black. Might try one without stripes as well. Need to find a good takeout place for cardboard containers too, those seem pretty handy! I think you may have been the artist that used screenprint ink, if so will you be doing anything else with it? I've been using it for fluorescent colors and it comes out awesome!

Purple would look good. I haven’t used screen printing ink. I’ve never heard of that method for tie dye. Fluorescent is hard to come by so that’s awesome!! ❤️🌈

@@BelladonnaDyesCo I saw a video using it but then couldn’t find it again, thought it had been you. The ink can be thinned with water and dharma sells it! It doesn’t soak in like dye but is awesome for spirals and other surface type ties. I unfold it after just an hour or two and let it dry more on a hanger. You can use a heatgun to speed this. When it’s pretty dry turn inside out and iron HOT to fully set. Looking for patterns that I can combine this with dye on. Sadly it’s not resisted dye so one on top of another didn’t work great 🤣 it’s BRIGHT though!

Do you use hot water to mix the black? In my personal experience, ive found black, yellow, and red work best for me when i dissolve the dye in 3 or 4 ounces of super hot water, then fill the rest of the bottle with cold after its all dissolved.

I don’t think so. It certainly wouldn’t hurt you. You need developer to open the cuticle layer of your hair and this dye doesn’t do that. ❤️🌈

After soaking it with soda ash do you guys let it dry first the shirt? Also is it okay if, after i washed the clothes then soaked it in soda ash right after even if it's not yet dry

I dye damp from the Panda spin dryer unless I specify otherwise. I prewash and dry to shrink my shirts and store them in bins. I suppose you don’t have to dry your shirt if you’re doing only one… test your soda ash periodically to make sure the damp shirts aren’t diluting it and lowering the pH. It should be 10.5-11. ❤️🌈

I’ve found the soda ash-soaked fabric to be very hard on my bare hands when I fold and tie. How do you handle that?

It doesn’t bother my hands at all, I’m very lucky. Can you pleat wearing gloves? You could mix your dye with soda ash. The downfall to that is the dye needs to be used the same day. The longer it sits the more it becomes null because the chemical reaction happens in the bottle. It’s 1 tsp of soda ash to 1 cup of water and then your dye ratio. I hope this helps.
