Now you have to do Lore for the different types of Tieflings, as not all Tieflings are affiliated with fire. There are Ice Tieflings that can be found in the Icy layer of the Nine Hells. They are definitely Hot. Which makes it's Hell a fun to Chill with them.

Small adjustment: a tiefling does not need to be a descendant of a fiend, tieflings can also be born randomly into the bloodlines of people who had pacts or deals with devils or demons.

There actually was an elven variant of tiefling introduced in 3e, it was called "fey'ri" but I don't think it continued past 4e in an official way. Honestly, you'd think there would definitely be a drow version, considering their affinity with demons (even the official 3/4e ones are specifically descendants of sun elves (I think even specific enough to be from a single family) who interbred with tanar'ri.) Tanarukk's are the orc version introduced in 2e and they ARE officially in 5e

In Pathfinder 2e they made Tiefling into a "heritage" rather than its own race, so you can add it to any race so you can have Human Tieflings, Dwarf Tieflings, etc. Same with Genasi and Aasimar.

Can’t Tieflings also be the result of a sort of curse inflicted upon the family rather than through blood or a pact? So you could have a legendary and noble demon Hunter, and a Fiend decides to get revenge on them by making it so that their descendants look like the monsters they hunt.

Let's not forget that in current setting 5e Asmodeus used a Coven of 13th Tiefling Warlocks to elevate him to becoming the "God of Sin" and thus cause every tiefling to be born being an Asmodeus Tiefling and effectively erasing the other kinds of Tieflings.

I once had an interesting concept for that very question. An Aasimar Tiefling offspring would look (for all intents and purposes) would look completely human in both looks and complexion. No wings, no tails, just an average looking human child... save for two tiny little nubs on the side of their heads. As they grew older the nubs would grow out into a pair of horns that would twist back forming a sort of pseudo-halo of sorts.

It would be a Tiefling. They always breed true. Aasimar's rarely produce another Aasimar. The child would be a normal human/half-elf/ half-orc, etc.

Incorrect tieflings are any mortal race (usually human) plane touched by one one of the lower planes either by their bloodline, magical exposure, a curse, or a contract/deal Cambions are just half mortal/half fiend. Devils make them,demons make them (The Demon Prince Graz'zt has a lot, one wirh Tasha and The Lich Azerak is the son of human slave and a Balor, he really hates his dad), yugoloths, and any thing native to the lower planes The stronger the base power of the infernal parent the stronger the Cambion, but any fiend can have one (theirs even specific types for specic pairings) But if a cambion + another mortal have a kid, they'll probably just make a tiefling

@namethefifth7315 i didn't say it was a short-term plan. As long as one of the parents is a Tiefling, the children are guaranteed to be Tieflings. It's slow and devious.

@namethefifth7315 as much of a lore junkie i tend to be, i have no clue. It's one of Asmodeuses plans. I assume there's sort of take control clause in the curse, but wizards have been vague on that, probably purposely.

You failed lore! Tieflings are part devil, not part fiend. Not fiendish heritage. Infernal heritage only. What you did was the equivalent of saying dogs (tieflings) were bread from wolves (devils) and cats (demons).

One thing I don't like about 5e is that Tieflings, Aasimars, and other such races are all human-like when they can be of any race.

Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, and halfings are human like too. So Teiflings look humanoid. A Tiefling from a human parent and one from a Elvish parent will look the same. The Fiendish characteristics are dominant traits. Like Jester from Critical Role, her father is a Water Genasi and her mother a Tiefling. Yet Jester is fully a Tiefling.
