More great content and actual tactical analysis. Good lord is this channel DESPERATELY needed. Much respect Gill. As for Tien, there are three things that have won me over and make me believe that his success in weaker fields may be able to translate after all (I was a BIG doubter as recently as the summer & fall). 1) His DTL backhand is a legit weapon. So solid, so repeatable, plenty of pace and he opens the space to hit it with his point construction to boot. 2) His T serve on the AD side against righties. Makes up for the lack of pace (which is still needed). 3) The defensive crosscourt forehand slice is INSANE. Rarely missed, completely takes an opponent's ability to attack away from them and makes righties get to the ball AND take a low-sitting backhand and push a defensive backhand back over the net. Because of the angle, it opens space on the court and allows him to hit high margin balls into said open space on the next ball. For me, the point construction and rally tolerance were known. These three things have impressed me a LOT. Still needs more pace on the kind of foundational aspects to men's tennis today (first serve and forehand) to raise his ceiling, but good lord I'm a fan of this kid. Still needs to prove this all works when he has less time against the better hitters on tour, but there's a lot to like.

Learner Tien was awesome. Very smart and consistent player! Hope he does well. The lack of match toughness cost him here I think. Couldn’t save BPs DFs and nerves in big moments. He doesn’t trust himself at all and serve let’s him down with pressure back in 2021 he would be 15-40 down and 2 swings later it’s deuce. Now he gets broken. 😞 Needs to actually either take Feb off to spend with his family if that’s what he needs. or start playing some 250s to get points practice and match toughness.

When Meddy was approaching the net (like in the third set) he was actually doing a good job. But it seemed like that was something he only felt comfortable doing when the match wasn't on the line. He'd revert back to trying to be a wall at the baseline at the end of sets and in tiebreaks. He was willing to adjust his stretegy but not confident to keep with it when things mattered

I couldn't have put it any better. Yes, Tien beat Meddy at his own game and I was amazed at what I was witnessing. Tien is such a smart player who executed his tactics with such precision. Phenomenal slice and shit tolerance. Meddy will struggle to win another slam with his predictable, baseline game, unless he comes out of his comfort zone and is willing to come to the net. Somehow I don't think it's going to happen.

Medvedev got figured out. He is the player that rellied heavily on his baseline shot tollerance and serving. When he is not feeling his best phisically, and lacks the serve, he is not top 50 player. Technically terrible. Racquet skills disaster. And his shot selection is so dumb sometimes its incredible. Court position. I mean i could go on and on. Medvedev is simply limited player, and there is not much he can do. He can be a top 10 player for a while more, but his days of contending for big titiles are slowly fading away.
