I had this exact same experience where in my competitive programming club i had a 17 year old who was doing better than most of his professors.

100 % bro i am a tier 3 student and i can bet many of my fellow batchmates cannot solve array basic questions. they can only take input and output and expect to get a high paying job. only 1% or less than that in a tier 3 clg has an idea of dsa and development .

This may be India specific because in the US, a lot of tier 1 schools aren’t the best schools for CS. Harvard for example is not such a good Computer Science school compared to Georgia Tech which is a tier 2 school.

Dekh bhai, Anything is possible. But let’s analyse your situation for a moment. Every year HFTs hire a handful of candidates because the job openings are very less. All the top IITs CSE and Electrical engineering folks appear for their hiring test and interviews. Many of them also get rejected. Other top tier institute CSE students are also trying their luck to get a job there. These students usually end up filling all the available job openings in HFTs. Now what do you think is the probability of a MCA graduate getting a job in HFT?

If you had been the top performer in high school along with high rank in NTSE scholarship exam or being an Inmo qualified student or higher, or a national finalist or top performer in some recognized credible National/International level STEM competition, it would have made a significant impact on your profile. For instance, approximately 10.8K students(2018 Data) are selected for the second round of maths every year, and around 8.37K people qualify for NTSE which is a lot. Those students who achieve/excelled prestigious awards/Accomplishments/ranks often possess a solid academic background, excelling in PCM contests and knowledge-heavy extracurricular activities. Such achievements can greatly enhance their chances of getting success with top ranks. However, it's worth noting that exceptional individuals without these specific accolades studying in top colleges in top branches still succeed there. So it makes a significant impact of prestigious accolades in high school, but it's of no use if one is unable to achieve such or even greater feats in college life too. However, it is seen that elite students continue such a trend in college too. Ultimately, you get a chance to appear in Online Assessment/interview only on the basis of Accomplishment/Accolades & Experiences which you can only achieve such feats if you are highly skilled during Undergraduate degree period. lt's because they don't do mass hiring and are super selective from the 1st round itself as the Top Quant firms hire very few countable people even from Top IIT's.

@@alpha87786fyi quant researcher which is more slightly more paid position than quant trader in companies like Jane Street , citadel, are mostly PhDs in math , physics , applied math major with very good coding skills so you can't say Olympiad is necessary for these jobs

Try for small hft firms first or try to get out of india into some small foreign hfts (as they generally do not look for iit rank or maths olympiads too much on resume) then let the resume's experience speak for itself maybe one day you might get a chance to work at a big big hft.

Prepare for both HFT and SDE role. Competition is very high in HFTs because all the top guys are trying for a job there. Of course you are not going to sit jobless if you don't get selected in any HFT. Hence prepare for job in tech firms as well.

No, it's not a standout factor anymore because currently, 17,000 people are doing it from IIT-M, and from October, IIT-G DS & AI Degree program will start with a similar strength of 10-20K enrolled students.

Bruh . Take pcm plus cs . Best option. Your 4th optional subject doesn't have that much impact on your career as a whole. Only way for u to get in is to crack jee and get a under 1k rank and give Olympiad exams every year

For Class 10 passed students: 1. PCM+CS (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics + Computer Science) 2. Olympiad background with highly preferred achievements such as InChO, INPhO, INMO, INAO, INOI Qualified and other Olympiad top ranks of foreign countries like Singapore, US, Russia, Australia etc. 3. Solid JEE Advanced rank. 4. Other top ranks in national-level competitive exams.

TRC is a much older and bigger HFT than any of the Indian HFT's. They have been around for 25 years, trade on far more exchanges around the world, and make a lot, lot more money than any of the Indian HFT's.
