"Paint a Vulgar Picture" didn't hit me at first either, but to me this is not only one of my favorite songs ever, but the song that I feel embodies the Smiths more than any other. It's deceptively simple but expertly arranged, speaks eloquently of alienation, longing and frustration and rails against corporate greed. I've been a fan since they were together, and Queen is my favorite as well... but on their last album they wrapped themselves up in a tidy bow and called it "Paint a Vulgar Picture".

I dig the tier list. What a tough group of albums to rank. I agree about the 1st album but I really like Louder Than Bombs. It'd be fun to make one long album of that and Hatful/Louder and cut a few tracks

If we're talking the version that includes Charming Man, it'd be B for me.

I actually really dig Louder than Bombs. Stretch Out and Wait is one of my favourites and this album contains the best version of that track. I like the album order too, which finishes as it should with Asleep.

1 Meat Is Murder 2 Louder Than Bombs 3 Queen Is Dead 4 Strangeways Here We Come 5 The Smiths 6 Hatful Of Hollow The Smiths are very consistent so all of the albums would be in like 2 tiers.

I was watching your Coldplay tier video yesterday and wondered if you'd ever do another one. Weird.

I think the appeal of a punk rockier songs is that they are more of knock knock into your brain than the mellow ones.

Lift louder than bombs up to A and S/T to number 1 on S and I'd agree with you a bit more here I think

In my humble opinion, "Strangeways, Here We Come" is the smith's best album. On the earlier albums, morrissey's theatrical singing often annoyed me - although johnny marr's guitar playing was always wonderful. "Strangeways" is very well produced, Morrissey's sings better (because less theatrical) and it is musically more appealing than the earlier albums.

I agree. Girlfriend in a Coma is amazing!

@@curly_wyn "Death Of A Disco Dancer" is my favorite song. But i like the whole album.

I just feel that there are some very weak tracks on the album, though I do love Stop me (one of my favourite smiths songs) and death of a disco dancer as well as I won’t share you and unhappy birthday. As for the weaker tracks, girlfriend in a coma, a rush and a push and paint a vulgar picture just do nothing for me. I’d actually have to put it down as my least favourite overall but that’s not to say it’s a bad album by any stretch in my opinion. I personally feel that Meat is Murder is a much stronger album from start to finish (with the exception of the title track). At the end of the day though, as long as you’re a Smiths fan, you automatically have great taste.

Taste is subjective at the end of the day. I suppose It would be a bit boring if we all liked the same things.
