the activewear set looks really good also, amazing work Mel. also, do more turtlenecks, for the turtles. my favorite is the pink plaid blazer, the animal print jumpsuit and the linen shorts.

Greetings Mel! About the plaid summer jacket: try washing and drying several times to reduce the fabric stiffness. I think you wanted a more relaxed look and that should soften up the fibers. Also, pink plaid is no longer just for summer! Try layering a cozy wooly sweater under it once you’ve tamed the fabric. Good luck with your coming year of sewing!❤❤❤

Thank you for the tip! I think you are right that washing will really help to give it a lived-in look! Thanks for watching and commenting 😊

Love this video, love looking at your makes and it is true, not everything suits us . Even though we love the style of it. For me the ultimate reason I don’t wear something is the quality of the fabric. I love your zadie too . Definitely worthy of the lifetime achievement 😂❤

Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! Yes, I keep trying to work on sewing for my real self (in terms of my style and lifestyle) and not my imaginary self. I agree that if something is made in a poor-quality or uncomfortable fabric, I definitely won't wear it. Thanks for the Zadie love! 🥰😊

As I was watching I was thinking how I would rank my own makes. It was a fun way to do the ranking.

Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think there is benefit in ranking your makes - I was able to reflect and learn about my preferences when I looked back like this! 😊

Boss! I love the way you think & that clarity really helps me. I bet your Ilford jacket will move to the top in time. That is truly one of a kind in all the best ways. Another Zadie jumpsuit, please! Altogether, Mel, kudos on a great job of ranking & creativity. Very inspiring! 👍💯🤩🎯👸

Thank you so much for such a kind comment, and for watching! I definitely have to make another Zadie in 2024, there is really no excuse! I even have the perfect fabric in my stash 😊

I really loved the blouses/tops that ranked lowest, even though I can understand your reasoning. I hope to see you make those again and be successful. They were really pretty!

Haha thank you so much! It was hard to rank them....some of the insides/construction of those earlier projects were really bad lol!

it's been fun getting to see you bring all these ideas to life. for me that has been really cool and I think this is a great way to take stock of your skills in the context of all these garments, gave me a lot of inspiration for my own projects

Hi! I strongly disagree on your evaluation of the 30's top - it's amazing and looks great on you! :) The colour is heaven. It actually made me want to sew something similar for myself. :) I really enjoy your videos and I'm looking forward to see more!

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it! I would recommend the pattern for sure, let me know how you like it! 😊

Love that you did this! I appreciated your fairness and honesty about your makes, what worked for you and what didn't. I think your Zadie is soooo cool and what a bummer you haven't gotten to wear the Heather blazer too much. It's such a great idea to reflect on what we make...if I were to do this, I think I would have similar feelings around certain pattern and fabric pairings, I think if it's the wrong combo you can't go back from it, unfortunately. Do you have a favorite piece from your top tier?!
@MadeByMelm Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I agree - it's hard if not impossible to recover from a bad fabric and pattern pairing. I think if I had to pick a favourite, it's probably my quilted Hovea jacket/coat because I wear it all the time, it is soft, warm, and so stylish! But the pink cut-out dress is a close second (even though its quite a simple make, it fits perfectly, I feel confident when I wear it, and it is perfect for hot weather!). Thanks again for watching! 😊

@@MadeByMelm lovely! I'm about to get started on a Hovea myself. Happy holidays!

It would be a great follow up to apply what you learned in this video to future projects. What are your main takeaways from this exercise and how will it shape your future makes?
@MadeByMelm Жыл бұрын
Yes this is such a good point! I'm thinking of filming a follow-up video with reflections on what I learned, so lookout for that in the new year! Thanks for the great suggestion 😊
