I read Elif Batuman’s memoir/essay collection called The Possessed recently, and it has loads of anecdotes in it so it’s very reminiscent of her The Idiot series!

You would also love Betty by Tiffany McDaniel, it is devestating but so rewarding. Its a historical fiction based on the author’s mother’s story and the writing is so beautiful and gets you so connected to each character

You should so read Shark Heart by Emily Habeck, I am not normally a romance fan but its such an amazing spin on a love story and it uses the premise as a stand in for terminak illness and the effects that it has on the people who are left behind. Its such an interesting story and it is so fantastically written (and creatively written with its differing formatting). I got sucked into it so fast and read it in two days (it could have been one but i had stuff to do)

Hey, you asked for some recommendations so I just wanted to recommend some books written by Brazilian authors that you may not know. Also, it would be a great ideia for a video! =) First, if you want to know brazilian literature, you have to read Clarise Lispector, I recommend A hora da estrela (Hour of the star). Then, Tudo é rio by Carla Madeira, or any other book she wrote. If you want a suspense, read Secret Dinner by Raphael Montes. I didn't finish up because I almost threw up reading it, but is very good (people say). There are so many others but they do not have a translation. Ohh and one of my favorites are wrtten by a Canadian author, Everyone in this room will someday be dead, you probably already know this one, but if you haven't read yet..... I'm just gonna tell that I think this book is very similar to the show Fleabag!

If you want a really impactful short-ish story (it's a little over 100 pages) I would highly highly highly reccomend A Short Stay In Hell by Steven L. Peck. You can't find it in book stores because they only print it on request, but it was so good and left me thinking for literal weeks about it.

I think you should read the book Still Life with Tornado by A.S King ! It has a sort of whimsical element to it, but when you read it you don't even think of it that way, almost like it is a true story that happened to a real person. And even though it is like that, it is so interesting and engaging and it is very relatable
