I might be biased as a distance runner, but I think distance running is, not necessarily the hardest, but the most painful. It's not hard to run a 5K but racing them all out is far and away the most painful and brutal thing I've ever done in my life

As a Table Tennis athlete I do feel that gymnastics is very hard. Like I could never😅
Waterpolo is a very intense and difficult sport. And although I played it for many years I don't think it's very entertaining to watch, simply cause half of the violence/action, and technique is hidden underwater.

As a figure skater, I will accept that I am extremely biased towards sports that have an artistic component to it to be harder than ones that don’t. With that said, I absolutely love watching artistic gymnastics and believe it is the hardest sport because not only do you have to use your whole body, but you also have to look good doing it, which is a different category of hard. It requires, strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and stamina from your upper and lower body. I recently came across the 109+ men’s weightlifting event from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics recently and weightlifting became a new sport I like to watch. Lasha Talakhadze lifts world record weights with so much body control that it actually inspires me on the ice. I want to have as much body control and grace on the ice as he does lifting weights. He is considered the goat in weightlifting going for his 3rd Olympic gold in Paris. I cannot wait to watch him and get inspired again by how easy he makes it looks, how calm he is and how humble he is accepting his results. I agree with you Cathy on the other sports you put in S tier as well. Diving is so pretty to watch as well
@cathydingg4 ай бұрын
I totally agree! I think I am also biased towards artistic sports as well- really cool connection also with the weightlifting! Hidilyn Diaz was also a weightlifter and really inspiring last olympics when she won the first gold medal for the Philippines! Proof that inspiration can definitely come from athletes in all sports and not just your own!

As a former swimmer, tennis player and a currently adult figure skater, judging only by my personal experience every type of sport that includes artistic component is super hard as I personally always forget to keep my artistic image and try focusing on the technique only which is 👎🏻 so maintaining both feels like mission impossible to me)) Also, court sports and all the aquatics are super hard because you have to keep your breathing stable + technique and strong will & nerves. Also, I really like mountain biking as it seems unbelievable! I cannot even ride a bike safely on a completely flat surface; surfing is something I love so much but it seems so scary sometimes and super difficult. But respectfully, every sport is super difficult and super intriguing in its own way! Thank You for the video Cathy!
@cathydingg4 ай бұрын
@@heleezu I totally agree! When I was a volleyball player- it was all focus on the game and I really didn’t care about how I looked or what faces I made but in figure skating, so much of it is also emoting and making something that is super challenging physically look very easy - indeed not an easy feat!
@rosanaghfigureskates4 ай бұрын
Not my sister currently laughing so hard she can’t breathe because Cathy said that that grass volleyball compared to indoor volleyball is a “whole different ballgame”. She loves a good pun Also I used to compete triathlon - while there is the Ironman events (Swim 5km, bike 100km, run 42km), the distances they do for the Olympics is called the Olympic distance event which is swim 1500m, bike 40km, run 10km. Making athletes do an Ironman at the Olympics would be insane!

As I'm a road cyclist myself I am pretty biased but I think that from an exhaustion and just like physical difficultness perspective it is one of if not the hardest sport out there. The endurance and full body strength needed is insane. Just imagine riding 300km on a bike at over 45km/h up insane mountains where the temperature is often below 0° at the top and having to ride down in a shorts and a short jersey because at the bottom its 30°. I respect every other sport and I'm sure that they are very difficult as well, nit trying to start beef here.

Tennis in the Paris olympics is actually played on a clay court, which I found more interesting to watch than the hard court (US Open) or the grass court (Wimbledon)
@cathydingg4 ай бұрын
Oh that is so interesting! Thanks for sharing! As someone not very well-versed in tennis- super interesting to hear that. I wonder if the court type affects the bounce of the ball at all and if athletes train a bit differently depending on the court type they play on!

As a show jumper for 5 years, horse show jumping is very hard to master and hard to begin with. You need a lot of core balance and strings but also ur let and armes while keeping your back strait. You are riding on a very heavy animal that has its own mind and can kill you within seconds of time. It’s also very likely you are going to fall of the horse and the horse runs over you. It happend to me once when I was jumping 1,6 meters and I broke both or my armes. It’s a dangerous sport and for me , as a horse rider, it’s a very entertaining a thrilling sport. ❤

For the Olympics to thrive the IOC should want to maximise the countries competing and the number of events they compete in. The current method of ranking countries exclusively by gold medals discourages less wealthy countries from competing in a broad range of events. A common sense approach to ranking nations is to assign points to each medal - bronze = 1 point, silver = 2 points, and gold = 4 points. This will provide a much more representative ranking than gold only ranking.
@cathydingg4 ай бұрын
I agree! I think the Olympics should definitely be in support of having as many athletes and countries represented as possible. I think athletes from smaller countries should definitely be able to have the same chances and opportunities to shine at the olympics.

@cathydingg4 ай бұрын
I'm curious about this as well- it's how the olympics officially categorizes it based on their website! Athletics is lumped all together while 3x3 basketball and basketball are separate events! I feel like it may be due to some long standing tradition or something along the lines of that
