Yeah I've played the 1st Edition [which I then sold on], but didn't feel as though I'd play it enough to give it a decent ranking.

Thanks for the video mate. I've played and enjoyed the early GBACW (SPI) games, but just reading the updated GMT GBACW rules was a brain burner for me. However, I'll have to give Imperial Struggle a second look.

Agree mostly with your choices. Would rate EotS a little higher and PoG a little lower. Atlantic Chase however fell really flat for me and I would put that a lot lower. Would rate Conquest of Paradise much higher, dont know, we always had fun with it, really kind of like a space game.

I only have about 50 GMT games, but fortunately none of them are in your C and D group (except Holland 44, which I like despite the blowing bridges issue).

Agreed. Holland '44 was my introduction to serious wargaming and I'll always love it on that count. I find it to be incredibly rich in narrative - it's at a scale and setting in which the units have so much personality and, competitive or not, I can't get enough of seeing how things unfold each time.

@@masonduke5647 I agree. To go with the ranking theme, Holland 44 would be an S for me. I think it captures the campaign beautifully

Interesting thoughts. If you enjoy Nevsky I would encourage a look at the other games. The maps, capabilities and Lords are all different. You then have additional mechanics such as Taifas/Jihad (Almoravid), Treachery (Inferno) and area control/influence (Plantagenet). Each historical context is also fascinating. For me this makes them all quite different experiences.

Some of my favorite GMT games which didn't make your list 1. Europe Engulfed 2. Asia Engulfed 3. Genesis 4. Blackbeard You're correct though, different groups can make or break a game. Personally I won't play any WW1 games, so Paths of Glory would hit the bottom here.

Well you are not missing much with Genesis (a weak version of Pax Romana) and Blackbeard (everyone in my group disliked it, hear the original was actually better). Europe Engulfed is interesting though.

Here I Stand: S Tier. Cataclysm, Tragedy & Triumph would be A tier for me. Combat Commander, Successors, Empire of the Sun are much higher on my list.

Triumph and Tragedy is your biggest miss! Games with no war are rare. It requires the German player to believe he can win an industrial victory (or maybe atomic) forcing the Russians or the West to declare war. Just P500 Ardennes '44! Pax Romana is indeed a great game from Berg. You gotta play with all of this optional historical rules, even good with 2 players, and way better the the simpler followup Genesis.

Ok... Nice that you start by rating Sekigahara a "B" ... that makes me not feel bad about recently having bought a few of your C rated ;-) Oh... and you put Empire of the Sun in B ... hmm... not sure how generally usable this rating is

Ok... Now I watched the whole thing.. I'm surprised how much we diverge. I think what you "get wrong" (or rather, the explanation for the divergence) is that you put a lot of emphasis on where you are wrt. A game and how likely you are to play it again. (Actually that's the same problem the BGG ranking guidelines have) I'd try more to take a step back and look at the game on it's design merits. That would make Sekigahara and EotS clear "S" tier games. I also think Dominant Species deserve a higher spot. PoG is also not as good as EotS. ... but then... I'm not a fan of Ted's very scripted design strategy.

Cataclysm….the biggest waste of time known to mankind. One tiny buried overlooked rule five hours later derails the entire game.
