Oscar Wilde for any party sounds like a winner really.

I don't understand why people hate on the Catcher of the Rye, I like it, like you said, his voice is memorable.

@@TheLinguistsLibrary I love everything he wrote really. “For Esme-with Love and Squalor” is one of the most poignant short stories I’ve ever read.

Your category-names sound very much like System of a down lyrics. Cool video!

Thank you! Man it’s been ages since I listened to them. Had a big phase in my teens. “Wake up! / Grab a brush and put a little make-up. / Hide the scars to fade away the shake-up . / Why'd you leave the keys upon the table? / Here you go create another fable!”

@@brenboothjones Haha I also had that phase in my teens. "Banana, Banana, Banana, Terracotta/ Banana, Terracotta, Terracotta-pie" is a masterpiece too

@@aquariuslibrarian some bands don’t age well-I used to love Blink 182 for example, but now most of their stuff is just too petulant and angsty. But SOAD are brilliant. I need to give them another spin. Thanks for the reminder :D

@@brenboothjones yeah i agree - I used to listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot, and now they're just kinda old and a bit embarrassing i think. But SOAD are still as cool as they were twenty years ago in my opinion :)

Lord of the Flies was inspired by Ballantine’s utopian Coral Island - conceived as its cynical antithesis. Robinson Crusoe is about one man on island - CI is about a group of cooperative decent children stranded on an island.

Robinson Crusoe is the original castaway novel. Both Ballantyne and Golding are indebted to Defoe.

@ Yes of course. It is just that the link between Lord and Coral is stronger and more immediate as Golding wrote his book as a reaction to Ballantine. Ballantine’s boys are future empire builders - well-disciplined and cooperative - the Lord boys quite the reverse - pagan savages.

@ Yes of course. But the link between Coral and Lord is more immediate and direct. Golding wrote his book as a reactive to Ballantine’s Victorian idyll. Ballantine’s boys are perfectly behaved and disciplined, empire builders in embryo - while Golding’s Jack and his followers are pagan savages.
