I like how my mans says "excuse my language" for saying crazy. But says holy sxit and even the camera cuts off and he just continues lol. Great review and this took a whole day (especially sleeving the 40 cards over and over) and some money too. I left a like and watched the whole thing. I was kinda disappointed that the DS ripped so fast since they are my favorite. I also have some eclipse and normal matt UP ones, along with Katanas that I bough the first time yesterday. Tbh DS and Katanas are the best ones for me, especially the white and slate ones !

I've been on Ultimate Guard Katanas for a year or so now and they've easily become my favourites. Probably the closest I've found to the old KMCs that were the gold standard. One thing I do want to point out at least for me is that Matte Sleeves are a little bit softer to handle than the glossy ones due to the smokey anti-glare fronts they have. It makes the edges of the sleeves not as sharp which reduces the chances of them poking or even cutting your fingers as you shuffle them depending on what style you use. IDK if anyone else has had the issue of glossy sleeves being sharp/hard enough to give them papercuts but I've had it happen before.

Nice video! I tested quite a lot of different sleeves and found Ultimate Guard to be the best aswell. Katana or regular - they're worth the price. Avoid the Konami ones - UNLESS you plan to double-sleeve! The Konami ones look amazing but wear out really fast and might bend your cards...

id replace the break test with a slide test. Slide on cloth and rubber playmats is a relevant test for a lot of people vs the break test. Most people will never put outward pressure on their sleeves like that (unless you shuffle like an unga bunga caveman and jam the corners of the sleeves into the top loading area)

i really like the minis a lot and their wide variety of colors. i dont think theyre the smoothest to shuffle at all, but as a collector only, and not a duel player, i feel like these give the best look to my binder...easily

You did a lot of good work here showing all the prominent sleeve brands. My personal favorites are Dragon Shield Mattes and Katanas for MTG. If I may add to your research: With the DS I like how freaking strong they are (at least the batches that I've received), the color options, and the size. The shuffle isn't as good as Katana imo but still great. I like having a colored border to match whatever I feel looks good with my chosen deck. However, they're almost too strong, in that the stiff corners may catch pretty hard while shuffling and leave creases. Guess it depends on how you shuffle. Also, if you leave too much of a gap at the top of the sleeve, that top part can get become "wavy" overtime. To mitigate this I make sure to keep the card more centered when I sleeve. With the Katanas it's all about the shuffle. I like buttery smooth slippery-ish shuffling, and they don't have that same corner catching problem I have with the DS since the material feels squishier. Still awesome in the durability department. The issues I have with them are that the inner part of the sleeve can be a shade darker than the outside for some colors. Also, they are a bit tight, gradually pushing cards to the very top of the sleeve and ruining that colored border aesthetic I like so much. I've found that the only inner sleeves that somewhat prevented this were the KMC perfect hards, but I don't like the increased deck-thickness. I've even read that some color options cannot accept double sleeved cards at all (green & white??), although I haven't run into that problem yet with my teal and purple. I'm going to try more katanas out before committing to one or the other brand. Anyways, thanks for the review and for anyone who read my comment. There is no perfect sleeve, only those that are perfect for you. Expect some eventual batch variance in all brands, more so for cheaper product lines.

I’ve used the standard gloss ultra pro cheap sleeves for years and theyve gotten me by since at the time I didnt have alot of money. Now that I am in a better position to invest I want to try the katanas, only thing I dont like is they dont have a light blue color option but I might buy them anyways to adapt if needed

To be fair to Dragon Shield, the rip test isn't exactly what they're made to endure - I'm sure they'd hold up to general play and shuffling about as well as any of the others there. They definitely look the best overall quality wise to my eyes, so I'll probably end up going that route myself... though to be fair to the rest, I'm probably just as biased after hearing The Prof and many, many others wax lyrical about them for so long

@@unkown34x33 you just gotta be careful for like the first few shuffles because they are slick, but after a bit they are good, I like the way they look, I've gotten compliments on them alot especially because they stand out, now you have to buy 2 50 packs if you are using more than 50 cards, the katanas are cool but I like my Konami sleeves the best, go with what you want, do you want cool look that are still protecting the cards or regular look that protects but looks like everyone else's Just shuffle alot to get rid of the slick feel

Great video! I'm shocked at the terrible quality of the dragon shields as well. Same issue with my black mattes and orchid dual mattes. Both peeled like nothing. The only ones that didn't have this issue were the snow dual mattes that I purchased. Dragon shileds were my favorite brand of sleeves but the QC going downhill is making me weary of buying them from now on.

The eclipse sleeves suck. I had go put over-sleeves on because the cards wouldnt stay in. they kept moving up and exposing the tops of the cards, which can result in damage.

I've only ever bought Katanas and Yu-Gi-Oh official sleeves and i have to say its a NIGHT AND DAY difference between the two. Katanas are absolutely awesome and if they were more available I'd buy 15 packs of them , meanwhile Yu-Gi-Oh products (sleevewise) are absolutely worthless to me. Terrible quality, glossy mess, breaks like nobodys business and straight up unusable for games that have bigger cards like MTG.

For double sleeving, I like to use the Dragon Shield Japanese Matte Outer Sleeves. That way you can use any inner sleeve regardless of feel or quality since your using the Dragon Shields on top, and still have that signature Dragon Shield quality shuffle

Would you say the sleeves ripping actually matters in terms of feel and protection? I mean, who’s getting their sleeves ripped like that irl? I’m surprised at how easily the Dragon Shields were ripped apart. Is the strength test to see how well the sleeves protect the card or how long the sleeves will last? I guess it’s probably to test how long the sleeves the last, rather than protection.

The ripping matters because it can show that after enough shuffling a corner can easily become damaged and torn into by another sleeved card as your shuffling. If you're just sleeving cards for protection from fingerprints, fading, humidity, etc then yeah it's fine. But if you want to comfortably play with the cards without damaging them, then your sleeves need to be tough enough to handle constant shuffling.

@@tryfergoodra552 if your inner sleeve a perfect fit sleeve (tight fit for the card but not too tight where it bends card) sleeved upside down (bottom of sleeve is at top) and isn't cut to short or long (the sleeve sticks down a little bit but not too much) it makes them waterproof I did with some Pokémon code card with KMC perfect size (Pokémon size) for the inner sleeve and regular size sleeves (Pokémon size) but you want Yu Gi Oh size sleeves instead of Pokémon size sleeves if you doing Yu Gi Oh cards and you can also do this with regular Japanese size sleeve (Yu Gi Oh size) with a regular size sleeve (Pokémon size) but sleeving the Yu Gi Oh sleeve normal then putting the Pokémon sleeve upside down (Clear Matte is the best for Pokémon sleeve) to make it water proof. It won't keep them catching fire but at least your cards never get ruin from clumsy people. :)
