@Al17013 жыл бұрын
That's what I was thinking. -The damming skill nerfs the drought effect on the water binome (they can turn desert streams into garden spots to give you an idea of how OP that is) and can actively expand the water binome by digging canals. -They create ponds deep enough they don't freeze through, giving them liquid water access yearround. -Their early warning system is superior to that of the prairie dog. -In the water binome, they're nigh invisible. -They use a meat shield of other animals that gather around the pond. -They store food for the winter underwater to keep it fresh and accessed easily where they're safe. -They mate for life and mom and dad share responsibilities raising the kits. -If the parents are killed, older siblings can take over parenting duties. -Males and females are equally capable (with the slightest advantage going to the female). While it has a risky setup, the beaver's strat is among the most broken in the game once established.

Naked Mole Rats have a trait that strongly benefits the eusocial ability that you didn't mention: They're immune to pain, so they readily fight invaders to their warrens to the death, making them extremely hard to predate, and their low requirements for oxygen and food (they can actively slow their metabolic rate when food is scarce) and cancer immunity benefit the fact they have 32 year long lifespans which they regularly survive through. Hell, Naked Mole Rat warrens are sparsely ventilated compared to those of other rodents making them hard to breathe in for predators and could theoretically cause predators spending too much time in the warrens to get sluggish giving the rats a defensive advantage. I definitely think they're B-Tier at worst and their main drawback is their lack of thermoregulation which really limits their potential habitable zones.
@mac1029386 жыл бұрын
I dont know. A lack of pain receptors mean that they also dont know when they should stop and run away. Having low stats all around, fearlessness is not particularly useful and can actually be very detrimental to the individual mole rats.

I know this detail isn't significant enough to change their place on the tier list but you should've mentioned a cute quirk about Cabybaras and how they are basically natures sofas. Anything from birds, monkeys, other capybaras just take a load off by sitting on them. Even in captivity with other domesticated animals they have no problem with animals such as young goats using them as spring boards. Even smaller, less threatning reptilian builds like turtles can be seen chilling next to them on riverbanks. In a game where everything is decided by well you can fight, defend and evade others, its refreshing to see a playstyle that keeps remarkably passive and downright friendly to nonthreat players. Tdlr, capybaras are friend shaped and there's blogs dedicated to other animals sitting on them.

Can you please do a mustelidae tier list? Ferrets, weasels, mink, Wolverines and such. They are small but way OP for their size.
@VillainousHanacha6 жыл бұрын
I second this idea, particularly given what the top tier rodent build is. Despite the fact that the porcupine is one of the best purely defensive builds in the game, even they are not impervious to the general weakness of high-DEF builds, that being high-INT builds. Case in point, the Mustelid class tree has one of the few INT-based predator builds that actually has a good matchup against the porcupine. That being the Fisher, a Martin-build that gained new strats in order to score takedowns on a build few predators can claim to have taken unscathed without being highly overleveled. Also doing a whole vid on the Mustelid class tree would be interesting as many players of Outside can name some famous Mustelid builds (the Honey Badger, the Wolverine, etc.) but few can even spec into the abilities to make the build as they don't even know what the actual class tree is. This would be a great chance to show players a class that manages to be both infamous yet also quite under utilized.
@davidegaruti25826 жыл бұрын
well he shoud do it , they have made everything : one of the smallest rushdown build in the weasels , arborial rouge who have a good machup on squrrels in the marten , tanky rushdown omnivourus fearless fossatorial builds in the badger ( which is countered by the skunk ) , and the absolute best freshwater rouge in the game with the otter , i just feel it would be like the raptor video in which they are from B upward : with minks( arguably an infireor version of otter and martens which does not impose itself in any niece but lag on the river banks and exist the weasel :too many counters occuping B tier , and then we have the badger the martens and the otters on A tier whit the honey badger the amazon otter and the fisher being S tier
@muffstuff6 жыл бұрын
Wolverines are pretty top tier too, especially in snow, considering they climb mountains for fun in the coldest parts of winter (like gaining 4900ft vertically in 90 minutes). They run around on top of the snow after avalanches with their snowshoe feet to dig up corpses of animals that died in the avalanche. Bears and other predators don't mess with them. Apparently they've been seen bringing down a full grown moose. Wolverines are super badass.
@davidegaruti25826 жыл бұрын
yeah , but i would argue that they have teir very OP playstyle during the winter , in every other period of the year i just don't see them reaching havock on anything other than groundhog , but still they don't suffer from lemming sindrome since they are still good during the year they just become powerful because they don't have any slowdown effect caused by snow , which let's them dance around and outspeed everything in their meta

Rats are better in many ways that aren’t mentioned in the video: They can eat almost everything They are great swimmers for a land based build, which allows them for many things squirrels fail. They a great squeezing ability, allowing them to get through passageways most players at their weight class aren’t allowed in. They are good fighters for the class, having a good grappling ability.

@pickyphysicsstudent2016 жыл бұрын
@Dodoraptor and other animals, Well rats have a higher consistency because they enter areas which houses alot of loot, nor are they picky about which loot they take EXP from. They are still not top tier because their strategy is to be versatile but lack the power needed to take on higher tier classes. Combos are great but you need to end on something with a big number to attack the opponents. Squirrels are better because they are a rogue class, which has a great match up against the Tier 0 Human class, not to mention the ability to reserve food storage increases the likely-hood of survival, during winter months, when food drops decrease. They make better nest, too because of the hibernation process they go through.
@elsquisheeone6 жыл бұрын
I honestly believe that rats should be at least A tier. they have incredible intelligence and a well rounded generalist body style that lets them adapt to (and eat) almost any environment plus, they can _teach_ other rats! after only one or two generations, a group of rats will avoid poison, traps and dangerous locations while continuously increasing their own territory. sure they can't beat anything in a straight on fight. but they are fast, small and smart enough to either escape or outsmart aggressors and then _pass on_ that information to fellow rats. they're goddamned OP

@MilesHacker6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true, although I'd say they did it more for views than just to spread a myth.
@mistergrieves6 жыл бұрын
The myth actually preceded the Disney documentary; the documentarians staged the footage, but they thought it was really what lemmings do. The origin of the myth is unclear, but it’s thought to have developed from lemmings’ boom cycles. Occasionally, their populations explode, and they have to travel to new food sources, sometimes forcing them to cross bodies of water. Although they can swim, they can only swim so far. The ones that die in the attempt wash on shore later. Because there are so many, there will invariably be multiple dead lemmings, which might give the impression of “mass suicide.” EDIT: Grammar. Also, thanks for the likes!

disney took lemmings, put them in captivity to film their migration, and then scared them off a cliff to perpetuate the myth - i heard quinton reviews say it in his video about escape from tomorrowland, i think.
@noneofyourbeeswax016 жыл бұрын
As Mr As If! has suggested, I really don't think it's accurate to portray it as Disney trying to "perpetuate the myth"; it was widely believed that that was what Lemmings do, and not having the Luxury of BBC and David Attenborough they couldn't just fly halfway around the world in the hope of filming Lemmings in this behaviour in the wild, so they set up a scene to show what was imagined to be the reality. And in fact that was the standard way to film documentaries about wild animals; take what you (think you) know about the animal you are filming and then edit your film in such a way that it appears to show it occurring naturally in the wild. And it still happens today; e.g. documentaries about insects are almost never filmed outside of a studio, regardless of appearance.

I think you somewhat underrated beavers. While it is true that they are incredibly vulnerable before their damn and lodge are completed, the other weaknesses you mentioned aren't much of an issue. In addition to building a pond, beavers dig long channels into the woods. This means that they never need to be far from the water when securing loot. The final weakness you mentioned is even less of an issue. Beaver lodges have underwater entrances. By the time the pond freezes, they're already under the ice. As a result, the ice only serves to make them completely unassailable throughout the winter. I'm sure that particularly careless beavers occasionally screw up and find themselves locked out, but it's a problem that is very easy to avoid.

For a more unique play style in Rodentia, I highly recommend the grasshopper mouse. In what is essentially a reskinned, scaled down coyote build, the grasshopper mouse reeks havoc in the small scale North America Desert and Grassland servers. As one of the few rodents to unlock high damage teeth, this build utilizes it to become carnivorous. Though this build mainly preys on insects, it also occasionally preys on other rodents, even scavenging on prairie dog builds, as well as builds normally detrimental to rodent types such as snakes. Though not as social as the prairie dog, this build repurposes the canine ability of howling to great effect. This build has also taken the venom resistance ability to a new level, to inflict the berserker ability. When afflicted by venom from a scorpion, this build repurposes the toxic effects into a painkiller, resistant to the effects of any damage for a limited time.

Your ability to change all real-world features into the form of a video game words is amazing Meerkat's communication squeaks -------- "team chat to warn each other when a carnivore player is nearby" Deep snow------ "snow biome" Birds ------"aerial builds" Global warming ---------- rising global temperatures are making snow biome disappear across player server" Beavers teeth that hurt them----- self dealt damage Ants fighting a spider, crossing plants, and surviving floods-------"taking down a huge boss, crossing barriers and surviving catastrophes" Squirrels climbing trees ------ "arboreal bonus" Sailing ---- "fast travel" And my favorite conversion of all Life------ "game" You really help me take the edge off of my bad days and I thank you for that. Good luck getting to 1mil

to be fair, i would have preferred if he used different expressions at times eg: surviving floods------- surviving catastrophe-class in-game events

I don't know if I can agree with putting rats in B tier. They're wildly successful generalists - they've got one of the highest species k/ds on the entire server (humans notwithstanding) and can be used effectively in almost any biome. Even with the extremely high intelligence and bloodthirst of the human playerbase, they still haven't found a way to reliably prevent rats from thriving in their regions. I would honestly place rats in S tier, not only on a rodent tier list, but probably a mammal tier list - maybe even an organism tier list

This was a pretty solid list, but I feel you discounted the brown rat (rattus norvegicus) unfairly while giving the squirrel a proper shake. Squirrels and Brown Rats are some of the most successful generalist build. If you're going to give the squirrel a higher rating because of the infrastructural damages it can cause to human mains, consider these two things: First, rats deal nearly the same amount and types of damages to human infrastructure that squirrels do, but are more adaptable to the urban servers human mains love to play on. Secondly, combine the brown rat's status as one of the common vectors of diseases lethal to humans with it's nearly unparalleled habitation range and resistance to eradication to create potentially the second most dangerous animal to human health, behind only the mosquito. The Brown Rat deserves S-Tier at best, A-Tier at worst. High intelligence, highly social team players, great match-ups against other high-tier builds, well-executed generalist build that can be taken to almost any server and be successful, despite the other competition, and domination in the urban meta that is becoming more and more expansive as the game goes on.

Being a disease vector is the number one reason why rats drop a tier below squirrels. That disease vector perk causes the rodents to get alot of aggro hate from human players. Humans even encouraged other cat and dog players to make rat grief builds. Squirrels do not attract as much negative attention in the meta, allowing them to thrive. Humans actively poison rat builds while handing out bread crumbs to squirrel builds.
@Virixiss6 жыл бұрын
Humans do the very same things with squirrels, as a matter of fact. We poison them, spread deterrence chemicals, and build traps and contraptions to keep them out of places where we don't want them, make architectural decisions with all manner of rodents in mind from power stations to housing, and we have an open hunting season for squirrels for meat and furs, with a much higher daily limit than other furbearing mammals. So if we're going to knock down rats because of aggro concerns, squirrels also need to be knocked down. Or we view both of the situations as a way that these builds actively impact the meta and give them points because of it. (It also occurs to me that this gives the Brown Rat a hidden trait that squirrels do not: Intimidation bonus vs human mains, which can often allow enough time to escape the danger.) Also, rats have proven benefical to humans, whereas squirrels are mostly just yard pests. Brown rats were selectively bred and domesticated to become a standard laboratory instrument for decades before the majority switch to mice. These strains were then fairly successful as companion animals for humans, and even used as working animals, doing things like laying out cables through pipes, carrying cameras to difficult areas, or detecting landmines for disposal. They are still a key research tool for models in behavioral psychology. This is another advantage that rats have: Mutual partnerships with humans to gain XP in ways that squirrels, who so far have yet to experiment with the Domestication perk, cannot.

Disease is not something rats specced into like say venom based builds, they are a victim of plague. Rodents are a base-camp and travel method for the fleas, and therefore the plague bacteria (Yersinia Pestis), to regroup and change strategies for the next attack on humans. Prairie dog populations in North America is another rodent which carries fleas with plague. Humans are clever enough to come up with methods for preventing long term flea colonization. When Y. Pestis mutates to lethal, it kills the rodent and forces a mass migration of fleas to a new food source which can hit humans. Once in humans, it can use the human it gains additional attacks like infectious mist by triggering cough.
@Virixiss6 жыл бұрын
Which is why I said vector and not direct cause. Rats still carry the infected fleas from place to place, and their colonies give both the disease and it's true carriers a place to survive some forms of eradication. Even despite plagues, rats are still potent direct causes of other diseases that generally do not affect them; Rat-bite fever, hantavirus, and several forms of hemorrhagic fever are all directly carried by rats with little consequence for the rat host.

Completely underrated the beaver class. The fact that their ability to build and transform an environment is second only to humans.

They’re a fun class for sure, but their dams don’t make up for their short falls. They create good quality of life changes for nearby players, but the devs should create some more incentives to beaver
