I feel like Hannigan was so underrated in the 2014 version. She had everything she wanted in life and in the fraction of a second it was all ripped from her grasps. Then she had to foster kids just to get by, yes she could’ve been kinder to them but she has a reason to be salty. Honestly I’m surprised she hadn’t tried to end it all, especially with the choice of words she uses, not just the “please kill me I’m not singing I’m asking” but also the “i slipped through the cracks and now I can’t seem to find my way back.” And then the added guilt of sending Annie with two complete strangers- you could see that she was genuinely concerned for her, and more so when she broke character and asked the other girls for help, honestly she’s the queen of character development and she deserves more than what she was given in life.

This song in particular definitely demonstrates the difference between the portrayal of the 1982 Hannigan and the 2014 Hannigan. While the 1982 version had more of a comedic flair to it to give her this “oh, she’s just a miserable old woman who’s cranky and hates kids!” sense which definitely works with that adaptation of the film. Whereas, the 2014 version shows a different version of her, trading out some of the emotional repression for instead outward displays of genuine anguish and frustration, as if Hannigan is reaching a breaking point in her life, as well as more lines about her unfulfilled dreams. It very much gives her more of a “This is a woman whose life did not turn out the way she wanted to, and she’s in very deep pain and emotional anguish as a result of that” appeal to the audience.

At times there are flaws in pretty much everything, but that's life, it's not a bed of roses without a few thorns. Your opinion is one crayon that you use to color your canvas of life. I'm happy with this, I think that Cameron did a good job, and it could always be worse. Yes, I have a super positive outlook, that's just how I am, I might be 4 foot 10 1/4 inches, but I can do big things to change my world, starting with spreading every ounce of positive I have. I know I'm probably going to make a lot of people mad by saying this but it's just my opinion!!!🤷‍♀️ I definitely prefer this version of the song and the movie. When I saw the first Annie I actually fell asleep and didn't really like it all! But when i saw this one it was and still is my favourite movie. I prefer all the songs, the characters, the plot and the cast! A lot of people were saying that they wished the songs were still musical theatre and all that but.............. what do you think MODERN REMAKE means??? Yes it's not the same as the first Annie but that's the point! Like, would anyone go to see if they said " Oh yeah, it's going to be EXACTLY the same as the original except a different cast which people will still hate on just because they're not the original so how about we just release the original Annie again????" Fair point, but it is a musical and this remake not only seems ashamed of that, but actively makes fun of the original. If I remade The Godfather as a comedy that constantly dumped on the original, people might be upset with me too.

Cameron Diaz was born to play the villain/anti-hero. I actually liked her so much when I saw the movie as a whole. She was so frustrated and sad and mean, and exactly who Ms. Hannigan should be.

This is my fav version tbh I’ve watched all 3 versions of Annie and grew up with the 1999 version. But I think Cameron brought a whole new side to Hannigan. Instead of her being complete evil it showed her soft spot for the kids and how even tho she was bitch she still cares and truly just wanted a new life because she hated hers. I rlly felt for her tbh
