After watching, Zayak, and Sumners, she was clearly the better skater in every aspect...jumps, artistry, elegance, carriage. Not even close. Stunning how the compulsories could keep her in 2nd after winning both short and free programs.

I remember someone saying that Tiffany was landing the triple axel in practice. That would be cool to see.

She was caught on camera practicing it but not landing it in this piece: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGm6hWSNjbiogdU

She peaked this year in FS, and it is too bad that her compulsories weren't there yet and there were some skaters ahead of her in "reputation" alone. She was just about as good as anyone else.

She was cheated at Sarajevo and sacrificed for Sumners the jump popper!

I was named after her. She was my mom's favorite skater.

Was this the only time she ever landed the 3f in competition?

Aww! I wanted to see her talk at the end! Bad tape? But very nice performance. Her jumps were so crisp!

Unfortunately it’s too blurry for me to view this is my minor complaint. Wish this video could be a bit more clear for viewing.

@aemeraldrainc No, I traded tapes with someone in order to get skating competitions from the 80s that I was missing, and unfortunately, she was trying to edit things out except the skating programs and the scores.

Such a good skater in every aspect. If I recall correctly her freestyle went downhill in the years following this. The thing I always noticed about her was that she seemed to lack a killer instinct. And then there was her mom .....

I think the Dragon Lady had quite a bit to do with her subsequent demise....shouting directions and commands from the stand is not conducive to a good skating practice...

Aww! I wanted to see her talk at the end! Bad tape? But that was a very nice performance. Her jumps were so crisp! And Dick Button sounded so young! Funny how Peggy Fleming's voice never changed. And this is the first time I've seen the scores given at the end of a performance that way. I guess 'cause it was a US championship? Less funds?

Like Kristi, the triple sal was her nemesis. Cost her the worlds in 1985 and was one of her two errors in this program. Still, this was the peak of her career, I think. She lost the triple flip (so did Katerina Witt) and consistency with the triple toe in the years ahead.

Both Yamaguchi and Chin had terrible Sal and Loop techniques. They had poor edge jumps.

xx xx "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty" in the beginning, not sure about the middle, "Swan Lake" at the end.
Her compulsories in Sarajevo had her so low yet in 1985 wasn’t she 2nd or 3rd in them at Worlds? Imagine if she was given better scores in 1984 there she could’ve medaled at the Olympics.. I can’t imagine her compulsories being so horrible one year and then top 3 worthy the next just like that..

Why does the commentator say " In case your wondering, her ancestry is Chinese"....Even in 1984, racial prejudice...The commentator would never say" In case your wondering, her ancestry is Danish"..get my point?

Right?

Nah, not racist for the time. Back then, there weren’t many Asian figure skaters. I would even curious as to her ancestry.
@metsdudenj11 ай бұрын
Wrong, clearly not racist, but then again people like you want to assign today's victim standards to something from 30 years ago.

In figure skating, regardless of color, ethnic backgrounds of the skaters were often discussed, even 40 to 50 years ago-when they were interesting or unusual. At the same time, it is also true that, although it might be hard to imagine today, Asian Americans had not been particularly strong in figure skating back then, and it was unusual to see a non-White face on the ice. / Vikki DeVries being of the Dutch origin, Todd Sand (Danish), Scott Williams being Alaskan native, Rocky Marvel (Italian), etc. were among the examples of “White” American skaters whose ethnic backgrounds have periodically been mentioned by the commentators in the 1980s through the 1990s. So, I wouldn’t necessarily characterize Tiffany’s ethnic background being mentioned here to be prejudicial, as a result.

Even if she had skated clean she would have stayed 2nd. Another skater who might have done great things if but for the compulsory figures. She would have won this for sure. I don't remember what happened to her in the Olympics.

The 3sal was never a good jump for Tiffany. The technique was too swingy after the three turn into the jump.
