Love that you show a real working studio space not the “ decorative version of a sewing space “. In order to work on many projects at one time my fabrics need to be organized and even placed into project boxes with labels and instructions for the remaining steps. That way I can be super productive with my work time. You are so inspiring!

Tiffany, This video has really spoke to me. I teach a free quilting class & provide all the supplies & sewing machines. So saying that, I am thrilled to receive any scraps from anyone. I have struggled to have a good dependable scrap organization process. You have honestly inspired me with a process that I can actually do from go, with out stopping due to a scrap that doesn’t fit my cutting process. This is going to be my new absolute process! Thank you so much for touching on and showing the difference the ironing makes. Saving space is a real need in my class room! You are an amazing lady. Thank you from Oklahoma!

Tiffany, thank you for being you, and taking the time and trouble to help all of us that are somewhat new beginner in sewing etc this surely helps me eminently. I’m starting to do some of this cutting down 2-2 1/2 inch squares, 5” squares, 10” squares, but..not cutting up all of it. Your collection likes good, I’ve only been sewing for little over 2 years now but…not as often as everyone else on U-tube. Im learning still, but….need to get busy, but Im disabled so I can only do so much in a day, my health issues keep me feeling uncomfortable every single day. But..I continue to do my best. Enjoy your week.

Do you think you'll ever use or even find any pieces you really want in a particular quilt or does it matter? I realize u like scrappy quilts but saving all these scraps makes me dizzy lol. I have one big box of my favorites only. All in different sizes but nothing smaller than 2 1/2". Just don't have the room to store. I am the opposite of you in this. I am a nutty gotta know what is where so I can grab and sew. Do you go through these boxes and piles to get what you want I guess is what I want to know. Second do u want ppl to send you such small scraps or would you rather get larger pieces? Happy sewing☺️

@@pattiecoxey I go through when I am looking for something specific. Most tomes it's grab and sew. When it comes to people sending fabric I like when they send big pieces cause gives me more to work with. But I've never minded what they send. I use it all eventually. When I buy fabric I buy 2 yards instead of 1 and or 2 jelly rolls or whatever. Just incase so I always have more to work with. But I make lots of scrappy quilts. I enjoy the process. I like to organize and I am slowly getting things more organized then I currently am 😄

Wow, wow, wow!! You are amazing! I cut only 10", 5", and 2.5" squares. Strips - 2.5", 2", and. 1.5". Then fat quarters, then full width up to 1 yard, and then yardage. I have fabric pieces big enough to be backings. Then leftover or pre-cut binding. I store fabrics I bought together (or are collecting) for a project in separate project bins. Then I have kits (please don't ask a lot of questions about this). Then purchased, complete layer cakes, charm packs, jelly rolls. Partial pre-cuts are mixed in with the sizes cut above. Then I have a string bin - 1" to less than 2.5", any length greater than 5". Then the crumb bin - bigger than 1". Then the trash bin. lol. There is also the bin of fabrics to send to Tiffany. What goes in here? Fabrics that have already been used in 2 or more quilts, fabrics for projects I will never make, things I think you will like, other interesting stuff.

Great timing Tiff. Last night I was dealing with scraps and finally threw my hands up and quit. I realized my issue is I don’t have enough bins. And you just confirmed that for me. I also realized I don’t deal with pre-cuts so I have no idea what I use the most of. So its something that I need to pay more attention to in the future. Thank you also for going as small as 1 inch. Most of the scrap management videos out there, they throw stuff away that’s useable, it makes me cringe and cry a little. I hate waste. Thank you for sharing you with us. 💖

I always refold my fabric and they go back on the shelf. I have decided this year to start cutting my smaller pieces into squares, strings or stripes. If I have a tiny corner missing, 1/8" I will still cut it as a square. That part will be in the seam, so why worry? Right? 😂

The light square on your mat just inside the 1st outer dark square, is 10" I'm pretty sure. To use for measuring quickly 👍💙

I’ve followed a lot of quilters on UTUBE. She is the most genuine yet! All the other ones are pretentious and and they have the money to buy what they want and ALWAYS say the quilt is easy. And then they whip up a quilt in no time.

Similar to what I do except I have a lot less fabric remnants than you do. Lately I’ve been using lots of scraps for a quilt as you strip quilt. Just finished.

I have started to cut up all of the FQs I have collected (or hoarded?) into 2.5, 3, 4, 5 & 10 inch squares and strips, as those are the sizes that I tend to use most. I have found that by cutting the FQs down into smaller sizes makes it easier to use!

Wow!!!! That is a lot of scrap cutting. I only cut five inch and two and a half inch squares. Yardage goes on comic boards. Half yards, fat quarters and fat eighths go in drawers and storage containers. The amount of fabric I have sometimes overwhelms me. I commend you on all the organization you maintain.

I’m exhausted watching you, girl! Your energy level is impressive. I’ll apply part of your strategies to my tons (literally!) of scraps. Might just keep some of bigger ones and send anything- other than string-strings - smaller than 2.5 off to a new home. I’m finally to a place where drawing a line has become mandatory. Great vid. Very helpful. Thank you, Tiffany. ❤

My ‘garbage’ size scraps go to a friend who uses them when building fires while camping. Anything non-cotten does get discarded.

I put all my “I can’t use it” scraps into a fabric bag. When the bag is “full”, I stitch up the open end and donate the resulting dog bed to my local shelter. I make the fabric bags from sheets I buy at my local thrift store. I also use old pillowcases from local thrift store. Members of my quilt guild save their unuseable scraps in this way and the dog beds are donated to a couple of local charities. The bed cases are made from donated fabric. Our scraps get to put to use for a while before they go the our landfill.

That's good that the local shelter accepts the dog beds. Ours doesn't anymore.

You could make quilts for years and never leave your scraps! I try to use up as much fabric as possible when making quilts. My scraps go to the local elementary school art teacher.

Great to see your system of scraps very similar to mine. I hv mine in bags and tins . Triangles in bags smaller cuts like 1 and 1½in to 5 in all goes in separate tins according to their sizes. I usually iron and starch my material anyway before cutting them so these scraps are already nice and crisp and i also have strips of 1½ to 5 in as well in tins. My tin on of them are now starting to over burst!!! Looks like i might need a new outlet or move the strips to another place temporarily whilst using up the squares.
