Even his time at PSG wasn't that meh. He probably did better than any PSG manager . Only tuchels time there can be debatable. He's truly underrated. Agree first time at arsenal it didn't work out but that could've probably been down to a language issue.

Coquelin was a bench player and even when he did play it was mostly as the back-up to Capoue instead of on the left. Manu Trigueros started most of their games and is a much more creative, attacking player than Coquelin, definitely not just meant to provide cover for the left-back. Pedraza was also the starting LB for most of Emery's stint, not Estupiñán, and he is also more attacking minded as described here.

9:45 onwards - the defensive shape is interesting, Mings is a converted left back and Konsa played right back at Charlton from time to time so there’s stuff to work with there in the short term at least. We still don’t know what’s going on with Diego Carlos, he came in for a lot of money but did his Achilles on his home debut and may or may not be out for the season. Luiz has been a source of debate amongst Villa fans for a good long time. He isn’t really a 6 despite what his shirt number might say. He’s just kinda ended up there because we’ve not really had anything until Kamara came in, Kamara also got injured so we’ve still not had too much time to push Dougie forwards.
@LT-zs5nn
@LT-zs5nn Жыл бұрын
As you said Dougie has always been up for debate amongst our fan base but it baffles me that people couldn’t see his ability even when he wasn’t shining and playing out of position. He’s obviously not capable of playing as a lone 6 but in a double pivot/as an 8 I think he’s one of our strongest players. His technical ability seems a level above our other midfielders

@waveplay3978
@waveplay3978 Жыл бұрын
Emery is a weird manager. He comes up with these unusual, creative tactical moves with an intention to counter the opponent's approach. A ton of video footage reviews and the need for players to understand Emery's reasoning for his ideas, which are quite complex/complicated. For a mid table side this can be a very effective approach. I think it's how his sides were often able to beat supposedly bigger clubs in knockout tournaments. At bigger clubs like Arsenal this goes against the philosophy of playing "their own" football and it just clashes. I wish him success at Aston Villa, hope he's a better communicator now in English.
@dennisgoatimer1079
@dennisgoatimer1079 Жыл бұрын
Our players were dying for more instructions Dean Smith was our last real manager and I think his approach eventually lost the dressing room being a more of a father figure style coach. Gerrard just left everything to his assistants when Beale left so did the dressing room as effectively they lost a manager whilst still technically having a manager. Then we got Emery screaming out instructions changing it mid game were needed like against United when they scored. Emery is a very tactical man who loves his data and for me thats exactly what managers should be. I heard he watched 19 or so United matches for the Europa League final against them thats how meticulous he is. It's probably not going to be any where near that figure for league games but it will still be high as thats the way he likes. His English is pretty good even at Arsenal it was good just really the accent hence turning the v's into b's in evening as thats typically how the Spainish pronounce v.
@waveplay3978
@waveplay3978 Жыл бұрын
@@dennisgoatimer1079 yeah Emery is meticulous and full of instructions. At Arsenal I was at first glad he seemed to be more of a micromanager than Wenger was who seemed more happy to trust his players to figure things out individually. I think if Emery had gotten the key signings he wanted (Nzonzi, etc) he'd have built a better team than he did. Also I think the team often didn't really understand fully what he was trying to communicate and it just fell apart. At the end of the day his approach and philosophy just wasn't very 'Arsenal' and it was just a bad fit. I still have respect for the guy though, he is a good manager for sure, far better than the Allardyce types we have in English football.

As a Villa fan I’ve genuinely got 0 expectation now, even though this is a fantastic appointment, and I hope other Villa fans are the same. Every year we have the majority of our fan base claiming we’re going to fight for a European spot, and at this point it just seems delusional. I’m rooting for Emery but honestly just want to give him time - unlike Gerrard he’s a good manager who knows what he’s doing and if we aren’t setting the world alight immediately I honestly couldn’t care less. The top 7 places in the prem with Newcastle now being a solid side are effectively set in stone, so all we can really hope for is top 10 every year and some decent cup runs.
